Note that this card can be made to work by compiling your own drivers, but the Lucid kernel is misconfigured as shipped.

sorry its been so long since I replied, As I myself do not have an Nvida card I do not know where they install.(you said they install elsewhere). As I said before, I had just read a lot if stuff pertaining to ubuntu's lack of Nvida support.
There are a lot of other forums on your exact problem though. Search NVida on the forums. I doubt it will take you too much longer to get things working.(If you haven't already)
hope the best with Ubuntu for you.
sometimes its our mistakes that make our biggest achievements.
This is a combination of Sony Vaio laptop and Edirol UA-25EX external sound card
1)Type Of Hardware - Laptop
2)Hardware Maker - Sony
3)Hardware Model - Vaio VPCEB1S1E
4)Known Issue - Will not work with Edirol UA-25EX USB sound card in Advance Driver mode
1)Type Of Hardware - USB sound card
2)Hardware Maker - Edirol
3)Hardware Model - UA-25EX
4)Known Issue - It will not work with this specific Vaio and JACK in Advance Driver mode. Only "normal" mode in 16 bit and 44.1 kHz is possible.
This was tested on both 9.10 and 10.04. Same issue.
System: HP DV8000 laptop
OS: Ubuntu 10.04
Problem: On board Headphone jack does not work, Mute button does not work
Have not been able to find solution
In Brasil:
Positivo Premium R430L - has a SiS 671 video card witch doesn't work out of the box (see below a fix) and a Realtek rtl8187b onboard wi-fi card that only works if it is 2-3 meters from router.
Go to this post and the 671 SiS will work ...
