Ricoh xd Card Disk Device (4in1)

Running Hardy Heron from external (USB) HDD on Dell Inspiron 9400 fitted with internal xD card reader. Had no luck with Dell - it would appear that there is no *nix driver for this device - at least, not available for download!

Thumbs down Re: Desktop Hardware Incompatibility List.

    Mainboard Intel DP35DP
    CPU Intel E5200
    NIC integrated Intel 82566DC
    NIC Intel Pro 1000 PCI
    GPU Gainward Bliss 9600GT
    Plextor PX-716AL
    Some cheapo DVD reader

Ibex amd64 installation freezes, live-CD option freezes upon reaching the Desktop.

FYI, I also tried two other options:
    • Lenny amd64 installation fails because neither the opticals nor any NIC is found.
    • FreeBSD 7.0 net install freezes during package download.

The Gainward is actually my second choice, before that I tried a Matrox G550 DH. Neither me nor my (pretty knowledgeable) dealer could get the DP35DP/Matrox combo even to the boot screen.

This is part of a known issue with all versions of the Intel gigabit Ethernet controller (especially onboard gigabit); however, it *only* affects Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid Ibex; 8.04 (Hardy Heron) is not affected. It's a kernel module-level bug that affects the 2.6.27 series of kernels with varying degrees of severity; unfortunately, Intrepid Ibex got hit the hardest, as no version of any Intel gigabit adapter or controller (either integrated or card-based) is usable. Your options are really threefold:

    1. Disable/remove your Intel gigabit Ethernet and replace it with another Ethernet adapter. (In my case, I went with a 3Com 3C905-TX.)

    2. If running Hardy Heron, avoid upgrading to Intrepid Ibex.

    3. If an upgrade is in the cards, consider another distribution (such as openSuSE 11.0/11.1, which has patched their kernel against the issues I spoke of).

WLAN system lockup for GQ NX-L-515 Frys Laptop when network gui file transfer

    1) Wireless WLAN lockup- chipset-ATI RS485MC/SB460
    WLAN-MSI(RAL) MS-6877 802.11g Mini PCI
    2) GQ (Frys brand)
    3) NX-L515 Laptop (AMD Sempron 3200+)
    4) Wireless locks up system , particularly when attempting network gui file transfer. At lockup, the Numberpad lock light flashes
and all becomes locked; hard power boot is the only way to recover.

(NOTE)-USB Wireless dongle (AWL...standard) confirms the issue
as a malfunction of the onboard WLAN.

The motherboard Asus M3N78-EH works except for the onboard ehternet(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...ta/+bug/231162) and SATA(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...ux/+bug/231159). I also couldn't get PCI ethernet cards to work, but they were very old and it could be their fault, but I'm not sure. When you try to boot your system with a SATA harddisk connected ata will get a 'qc timeout' and can't IDENTIFY it.

    Haier A20 notebook
    Intel T2370 @ 1.73GHz (Core Duo)
    SiS M671 Mirage 3

    1. Ubuntu 8.04 64bit needed to be installed with options "noapic nolapic acpi=off vga=791", needs to be booted with "noapic acpi=off apm=power_off".
    2. OpenGL (3D) graphics driver unavailable (no Compiz)
    3. With self-compiled 2D driver from Chen Chao Yu at SiS (source under GPL license) videos don't play in full-screen, at boot-up the screen's brightness fades from faint to gleaming, showing a turquoise-grayish pale pattern with a cyan rectangle on the left bottom corner of the screen.
    4. CPU load spikes extremely high when doing nothing special but only moving windows.
    5. Sound is very soft; is normal when booting with pci=bios_irq but internet connection will fail and system will run very slowly with this option enabled.
    6. on boot-up, when attempting to reconfigure xserver and when executing displayconfig-gtk the following error occurs:
      Code:
FATAL: Error inserting battery (/lib/modules/2.6.24-16-generic/kernel/drivers/acpi/battery.ko): No such device
