Hi everyone. My name is Gairy and I am in school to be a Network Administrator. My introduction to Linux was with openSUSE, but I have come to love Ubuntu. Both my laptop and desktop are dual-booted and I have converted my daughter. She likes how easy it is to use compared to the many lockups and problems she has had with Windows.

I started with Mandriva and SUSE but they didn't click with me. I found Ubuntu (Dapper Drake) and liked the totally free aspect, and loved the community.(Mandrive & SUSE were not "free" ) I stayed with Dapper for 6 months and accumulated some knowledge (and some beans), but had to go back to Windoze for work. I came back with the release of Gutsy 7.10 and am now running Hardy 8.04 64-bit. I am starting over, trying to relearn the knowledge I have forgotten. The community has expanded along with the forums, but I see the same people are still here helping us newbies. This is THE place to be if you want a computing experience and not stuff spoon-fed to you by M$. All three machines now run Ubuntu.

    Hi My Name is Carter,

I have been using linux for about 7 years now. Started using Ubuntu about 4 years ago and not missing microsoft software or the fees associated with it.

I still support Windows and Microsoft products at work but would rather not at times.

Greetings to you all. I first saw Fiesty Fawn and got excited. I think Linux is the future of computing. I'm as much a beginner as you can get.

Almost a year later and I am trying Ubuntu again. I get so frustrated. I'm looking for a tutor in the Statesboro, GA area.

Hi my name is Chris. I have been using Linux for about 2 years now... I started when I got a free copy of Linspire 5.0 from an online training Best Buy had the computer people doing. since then I have been playing around. I have a laptop that is dual booting vista/ubuntu (with a third partition for installing other testing distros. Saw a story about the upcoming Atlanta Linux fest and figured that I would post up.

Hi. Originally from Clarkesville Ga. As you can see from some of my posts I'm learning Ubuntu. Set up as a dual boot with Windows XP for now. I want to eventually become an Ubuntu user only at home. This is a great group of people here in this forum. I've learned a lot and am constantly learning from everyone here. I thank everyone for all of they help that they have given me. Even from the very start I had people guiding me in the installation and setup on my machine. Thank you everyone!!!

The Georgia Team is a great idea. I'm a retired AP reporter living in Albany, Ga. Welcome the opportunity to meet with other Ubuntu users to solve hardware issues and to learn more about this wonderful operating system.

Ubuntu was my distro of choice three or four years ago, but my laptops didn't seem comfortable with the last few distros. So I switched to other Linux versions.

The latest, 8.10, installed flawlessly on an old Sotec 3120 so I'm going to test it on some of my newer laptops.

I especially liked the ability to recognize the Atheros wireless card and to connect easily to the Alltel network using a Kyocera KPC650 card. Another huge plus was the ability to connect with my wireless printer. All I did was click a button to make it search for the printer and then click again to install drivers.

I've bookmarked the Georgia Team portion of the Ubuntu forum, so I can stay up to date on activities in our state.

Hiya folks, I'm exploring Linux. I'm currently dual-booting with XP 64 on my primary machine, but I have a linux box for experimentation.

I look forward to lurking in the forums until I learn enough to look stupid in the forums ;P

    Thanks for being here!

Hi, everyone. My name is Drew. I live in Carrollton over in the western part of the state, about an hour from ATL. I have been using linux off and on for a few years, but only started using it exclusively a little over a year ago. I am trying t get involved in the Ubuntu community with the goal of someday hopefully becomming a developer. Ubuntu is my favorite distro, though I also use Debian. I work for a medical software company as a staging specialist, training to become staging manager and field engineer. I really want to get involved in the things this group does.
