    Thumbs down Re: How To: Make Your Own Ubuntu Repository DVDs

    Hi Community,

    I just failed to build a local karmic-mirror of http://archive.canonical.com.

    I am running xubuntu lucid lynx.

    I have installed debpartial_0+20030508-0.1_all.deb from a debian-mirror and not the proposed debpartial_0+20030508.1.tar.gz from ubuntu-mirror becauce I did not succeed installing the tarball.

    This command...

    debmirror --nosource -m --passive --timeout=seconds -t 240 --host=http://archive.canonical.com/ --root=/ubuntu --method=http --progress --dist=karmic,karmic-security,karmic-updates,karmic-backports --section=main,restricted,universe,multiverse --arch=i386 ~/ubuntu-karmic-i386 --ignore-release-gpg

    ...gives following error-messages:

    [0%] Getting: dists/karmic/Release... dists/karmic/Release failed 500 Can't connect to http::80 (Bad hostname 'http:')
    [0%] Getting: dists/karmic-security/Release... dists/karmic-security/Release failed 500 Can't connect to http::80 (Bad hostname 'http:')

    [0%] Getting: dists/karmic-backports/Release... dists/karmic-backports/Release failed 500 Can't connect to http::80 (Bad hostname 'http:')
    Errors:
    Download of dists/karmic/Release failed: 500 Can't connect to http::80 (Bad hostname 'http:')
    Download of dists/karmic-security/Release failed: 500 Can't connect to http::80 (Bad hostname 'http:')
    Download of dists/karmic-updates/Release failed: 500 Can't connect to http::80 (Bad hostname 'http:')
    Download of dists/karmic-backports/Release failed: 500 Can't connect to http::80 (Bad hostname 'http:')
    Failed to download some Release or Release.gpg files! WARNING: releasing 1 pending lock...

    root-directory on http://archive.canonical.com/ IS NOT ubuntu. Typing --root=/ does not help - for first step. debmirror says it is mirroring from http://http://archive.canonical.com//debian/

    perhaps some strings in config-files are wrong?

    Thank you for your attention. Perhaps you can help me.

    Re: How To: Make Your Own Ubuntu Repository DVDs

    my problem seems solved:

    http://archive.canonical.com -> pool is empty

    BobSongs solution seems to work now with a different internet-mirror.

    thank you for your attention,

    Re: How To: Make Your Own Ubuntu Repository DVDs

    Seems the folders have been moved to this location:

    archive.canonical.com/dists/

    Added to the tutorial how to modify one's sources.list if the Ubuntu we're running is old and the repositories can't be accessed as before.

    Re: How To: Make Your Own Ubuntu Repository DVDs

    Sorry for such a late question folks, but I tried both the old and new url (archive.canonical.com and archive.canonical.com/dists/) for Canonical and neither is working. I have been downloading the Hardy, Maverick and Precise (i386 and amd64) repos from Ubuntu and MediBubtu with no problems. I just can't get Canonical. I am also having a problem with making the index / packages list and public keys. After doing the commands, they want to make one package list of everything I have downloaded and the public key has all of them listed. Yes, I download to one computer (running Maverick) because it is the one I actually use and it is the one that I am using as a server. I also have another desktop running Hardy, and it is the one that runs WXtoIMG. My laptop currently runs Maverick, but I am going to upgrade to Precise. Any thoughts is greatly appreciated. I completely moved away from windows about 4 to 5 months ago, even though I still have another desktop that has both 98SE and Fedora Core 6 (using different drives) on it. Been using Linux distros since around 2001 or 2002, started out with RedHat 9, wasn't till January I tried Debian, then EdUbuntu, and finally settled with Ubuntu. Still consider myself a newbie, so it may take a whole lot of explaining something even simple. Thanks a bushel. John

    OK folks, I figured out part of my problems. I have to cd to each directory. Still can't get the Canonical repos though. John

    Disregard about Canonical folks. I'm happy with what I have in my repos now. I even have my repos working over LAN. John
