    Organizing/Advocating Gnu-Linux/OS/etc.

Hey folks. I'm seeing the list of cities, states and countries around the world that are switching to Open Source, OpenDoc, Linux, etc. It's impressive. It's also pretty depressing how they're all overseas. Let's start coordinating our letterwriting, petitioning, fundraising, what-have-you. I think we can make very persuasive arguments towards California's school districts, which are perpetually short of cash. I'd be more than willing to start talking to folks here in Pasadena USD, but I'd like to know if we have any local techies who would be willing to help me talk the talk with their people. Let's do something.

    Peace.

I live in the IE but would be happy to show case some Ubuntu and Open Source solutions. Without informed decison makers there will be no shift from MS. IF we can look at what they currently need I am pretty sure I can get 95% or more of there needs met with FOSS (Free Open Source Software). I started up a google page for and idea I have. Its called SoCalOpensource.org . I aim to make it a free standing group that is a 501 c non-profit to inform companies, education (schools, colleges, and universities) cities, and the public about the possiblities of Open Source. I am an Ubuntu loco California team member also. So email me at byte69@socalopensource.org or byte69@gmail.com I am more than willing to help.

Sounds fantastic, and very well organized. I was also considering setting up charitable trusts to finance either state/local projects or advocacy. I'm just not sure I want to be a full- or part-time fundraiser. Let's see if when we reach whatever our critical mass might be that these sorts of things become real alternatives. Keep up the great work!
