ok, so i already posted this, but its not showing up...i need help!!! i aam new to ubuntu, love it, but know virtually nothing about it! i want to learn! basically in computer stupid language i want to switch everything on my hard drive of my emachine, over to my dell inspiron 1420. i dont have a flash drive, but can burn cd's. i need someone to have pity on me lol. could any post a "copy and paste" type terminal command to get this don? i suck at speaking computer lol, although i love learning about them. basically i need instructions in this manner:

"first type "blahblahblahblah"
"then when you see "blah blah blah" type "blahblahblah"

and so on and so forth. lol im sorry to do this to you guys, but hopefully you will view it as a challenge! i know it is for me! on my system i have windows xp partitioned with ubuntu 10.10 (upgraded from 10.04 lts w/o new install) my dell has strictly windows 7 on it. I know from experience that dell does not like to be partitioned, and does not handle it well. had a very bad experience with an xps! so i want to copy everything on my emachine except the windows partition, and completely ovewrwrite windows 7 on my dell. please tell me if this is a wise idea, or if i would be better off doing a clean install from a cd and transferring of the setup files via usb? btw just so you know, my internet connection speed will take approx 13 hours to download ubuntu 10.10 (get free internet for pc thru straighttalk nokia e71 so im not complaining lol. for unlimited talk text and data as well as free internet for any pc i authorize all for 45 a mont with no contract and service everywhere, its a deal that cant be beat! not that im trying to pass the word or anything lol) but back on subject, please help!!!

ok, I can understand why everyone love using the terminal now, its actually easy to understand if you think about it in the way that your READING the information that the computer has, and what you want it to do as you would otherwise be viewing it, only with a much broader ability to do what you want!. ok i think i am ready to copy my system to cd's if someone will be willing to walk me through it. btw thankyou lukasz for that info, it was exceedingly helpfull!

LUKASZ thankyou very much for that information, it will be very helpfull if i end up having to do a clean install of ubuntu 10.10. At this point, however, what I am trying to accomplish is copying my entire hard drive (minus the windows px partition) so that i can then install the copy of my hard drive onto my dell inspiron 1420 laptop. I have been told that I can copy my hard drive on to cd's even thought it will take quite a few, i am ok with that. what I was hoping for was that someone could walk me through the process of copying my whole hard drive onto cd's then booting it up onto, and installing it on, my dell laptop. any help with this will be greatly appreciated!
