    Re: Ubuntu Gamers

Back when I was in college, we would have long nights of CounterStrike in the computer lab. It would be a lot of fun to get the group together (those who are interested, and outsiders as well) to play some sort of FPS, basing the entire event around Ubuntu (only Ubuntu games).

Ok, I was about to say... Ubuntu is only a couple years old . I'm actually in college... but I can't find anybody else who uses Ubuntu in my area with the same focuses as me.

    Re: Ubuntu Gamers

I just loaded umbuntu and I am trying to learn how to use it. I am out of Lexington KY. I a a big gamer and look forward to playing with linux. I am currently on a mission to figure out how to instal and use team speak. Although I am still having troubles even figuring out what files to use and how to use them. Seems everything d/l's to my desktop and then says "can not support this file" lmao!

Once I figure out Team speak I am on to steampowered.com to figure out how to get my H/L games running! I see they have a linux section!

Hey Colonel, I've used TS several times myself, but alas, on a winblows box. Without even looking at it, if TS doesn't support a linux version, you may be able to get it to work using wine, which is a windows environment emulator.

Let us know what your progress is!

    Re: Ubuntu Gamers

I'm not as big into games as I was in high school and I haven't bothered much with Wine yet. Even so there are some pretty awesome Linux native games. I play Neverwinter Nights, America's Army (though Linux support was dropped after 2.5), and I just recently found a Free MMORPG called PlaneShift. If I can get more then that running on my desktop I'd be all for a LoCo game night.

    Re: Ubuntu Gamers

As a guy in his "second childhood", I enjoy gaming a bunch. I just last night finished Doom 3 in XP Pro.

After completing Doom, I found "OpenArena" here on the forum. OA uses the Quake 3 engine. I have only played it for a short time, but it seems to be fun. I'll play it more tonight.

Here is a link to get OA:

I hope to find more games like this for Ubuntu.

I've read about this OpenArena game. I didn't know it was based off the Quake 3 engine though! I'll have to check this out, but I doubt it will be anything near as great as the upcoming Weapons Factory MOD for Quake 4! www.wfrevolution.com.
