    sudo: gedit: command not found

    As to Network Manager, I'm seeing under System Settings -> Network Settings ... is that what you mean? I'm not seeing the Verizon card anywhere there.
    The network manager will probably be a much easier and stable(imho) way of connecting this 760 aircard in maverick.

    The network manager is probably a little icon near the upper right portion of the top toolbar. It will either have two arrows, one pointing up and one pointing down, or a little wireless symbol.
    Here are some examples:

    http://primevpn.org/images/setup/linux-openvpn/24.jpeg

    It changes based on what type of connection is currently the default, I believe.

    Also, when you first plug the 760 into the USB port, does a new "hard disk" appear on your desktop? I have a spare 760 at my office, so I can try it out Monday if you still haven't gotten it connected.

    Ok, I see the interface you're talking about. I also tried under network settings, setting up a new CDMA celluar connection. It asks for phone number, which I have, and user name and password. Verizon tells me there's no specific username and password affiliated with this account. Am I just making one up?

    Secondly, I'm not seeing a way to disconnect from the wifi in order to try connecting with the broadband, other than maybe to delete the wifi from network settings.

    I believe the settings should be as follows:

    Username = 1234567890@vzw3g.com
    Password = yourpassword
    Phone = #777

    replace the 1234567890 with the phone number of the aircard(sometimes you can just leave it as 1234567890 and it won't even matter)
    yourpassword doesn't matter either. Just leave it.
    The phone number HAS to be #777. That's the modem number for verizon aircards to dial up.

    As far as the wifi thing; if you are actually connected to a wifi network, underneath the connection there would be a Disconnect link. You can always right click on the network manager and uncheck "Enable Wireless". Your wired connections and aircard connections will still be enabled.

    Holy crap ... Senor_Smile, I owe you a drink, or a hug, or something!

    As with so many things Kubuntu, I knew it had to be something simple, it's just getting there. And I can't believe Verizon tech support has nothing to help with Linux users.

    So now while I panic over my non-booting mac with all my school notes on it, I at least have my wonderfully working backup Linux machine upon which to finish writing term papers. Thanks again and again and again...

    I'm trying to follow the instructions on the first page but keep getting error messages to the effect of: gedit: command not found.

    !
    I used to have USB760 and problem with it was that it have built in CD-Rom emulator which has to be disabled in order to prjojperly assign dev identifier.

    Can you post output from following command:
    Code:
    ifconfig
    also can you tell me what happens when you just type gedit by itself.
    Additionally if left click on your wireless connection icon you will see option to disconnect from a particular wireless network

    Looks like you have ip from your cell connection, unfortunately most likely you will need to restart your laptop to connect again if you pull the 760 out or suspend the laptop, instructions at the beginning of this thread fixes this issue.

    Just FYI you can also turn in on or off via command line:
    Code:
    ifconfig -displays all interfaces on your machine
    iwconfig          -displays wireless interfaces
    sudo ifdown eth1  -takes wireless(usually eth1)interface down
    sudo ifup eth1 -brings wireless interface up (eth1 in this case)
    sudo dhclient eth1  -refreshes DHCP
    sudo lshw -C network -shows all NIC interface info
    sudo /etc/init.d/network restart -to restart networking services
