    We can't. This is entirely on Samsung to resolve, or the eglibc programmers to accommodate this sort of static linking for all the various programs doing it. I'm not optimistic the second will ever happen, nor the first any time soon.

    I did enter it as binary... upon trying again a moment ago and refreshing in Synaptic, I got this error message:

    I've checked the spelling (everything's spelled correctly)... not sure what else to do at this point.

    Look at this bug report: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...pt/+bug/574886

    There are various solutions proposed that work for some people in the discussion, all of which are related to network and/or router settings. Other than the fact that my web host appeared to be really slow to respond around the time you posted your last message (consistent with the problems described in that bug), I can't think of what could be causing this to fail for you but work for me (and presumably most of the hundreds of users who reload it each day).

    Re: HOWTO Install Samsung Unified Printer Driver

    Hi tweedledee,

    please help me, I can't add my printer to the Samsung Unified Driver Configurator (Qt4 interface).

    Computer Processor: AMD 64-Bit

    Linux-Distribution: Ubuntu 10.10, 32-Bit

    Printer model: Samsung CLP-300N

    Connection: Ethernet

    Driver: samsungmfp-driver 3.00.65-3

    Driver-Installation: your method IIc: "Use the Samsung Unified Linux Driver repository"

    When I began with Linux (Ubuntu 9.04) the printer worked fine with the Samsung Unified Driver that I downloaded directly from Samsung's page. I also worked with 9.10. The first problem I got was when I installed 10.04. The printer was now only detected when I first booted the System and then switched on the CLP-300N.

    Last week I did an update to 10.10 and now the printer is not detected anymore.

    The error message when I try to start the Samsung Unified Driver Configurator:

    Server of CUPS printing system is not accessible at the moment.
    As a result, you neither can print anything, nor even see your installed printers.
    This situation might mean that your system is not configured properly and CUPS is not active printing system.
    To resolve the problem, set CUPS printing system as default by means of your current Linux distribution.
    Then you need to reboot your computer and try to run this application again.

    Please refer to the documentation for details.
    Then the Configurator started but I was not able to see the printer. Neither I couldn't install it. Add printer and the "Add printer wizard" started, then clicked Next and I could select a "Network Printer". Then clicked on search and the right IP was found. But when I then clicked Next there were no drivers shown.

    So, I deinstalled this driver by following your instructions IV. Uninstallation of the Driver and then installed the Samsung driver by using the repository.

    Now, I've installed:

    samsungmfp-driver 3.00.65-3

    samsungmfp-data 3.00.65-3

    samsungmfp-scanner 3.00.65-3

    samsungmfp-configuration-data 3.00.65-3

    samsungmfp-configuration-qt4 3.00.65-3

    But exact the same problem is still there...

    What do I have do to, to make the printer work with Ubuntu 10.10?

    EDIT: Okay, one little step further...

    Because it was not possible to receive the CUPS Web-Interface by the adress localhost:631 I deinstalled CUPS completly with Synaptic. Then I did a new installation of CUPS. And now there appears no error/warning message anymore.

    And now the drivers will be shown in the Samsung Unified Driver Configurator. So I selected the only offered driver for the CLP-300N: Samsung CLP-300 series (SPL-C)

    But when I try to print the test page by Testing printer nothing happens. Checking driver and printing test page report OK but the printer doesn't work. The Status in the printer spooler is ausfuehren (means run or execute)

    (For testing reasons I installed this exactly on my Samsung n130 netbook and on my wife's notbook called ASUS X50R - both have the OS Ubuntu 10.04 - and it works fine on both!)

    Thanks and regards

    Can you see, add, and/or test print when you install the printer using the Printing administration tool instead of the Samsung Configurator?

    System -> Administration -> Print

    1.) I can see the already installed printer

    2.) I can click the "add" button

    3.) When I'm searching for a network printer, I have the choice of two different ones: JetDirect (with the IP of the printer) and Samsung CLP-300 (current). further I can choose between LPD and IPP

    4.) No matter which combination I choose, I can click on the button "print test page" but nothing happens

    5.) And it is not possible to click on the button "add", but a new printer is shown in the printer admin tool...

    Re: HOWTO Install Samsung Unified Printer Driver

    With Samsung CLX-2160 USB, I have also the strange three parallel images problem on a fresh install of:
    DISTRIB_ID=Ubuntu
    DISTRIB_RELEASE=10.10
    DISTRIB_CODENAME=maverick
    DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="Ubuntu 10.10"
    2.6.35-22-generic #35-Ubuntu SMP Sat Oct 16 20:36:48 UTC 2010 i686 GNU/Linux

    Drivers are installed by tweedledee's great instructions. Printing is ok. Scanning produces three black and whiteish stretched parallel images. The same happens with xSane, simplescan and the driver-gui's own scanning software.

    Any help much appreciated. Don't want to get back to winblows...

    I get this when trying to install legacy scanner package. The newer one installs but does not work for me. The scanned image appears to be tripled.
    Code:
    http://www.bchemnet.com/suldr/dists/debian/extra/binary-amd64/samsungmfp-scanner_3.00.37-3.deb  404  Not Found

    I'm not sure what to make of this. Perhaps a complete purge and reinstall of CUPS and then all the Samsung pieces? If you have another printer you can try or if you can try the printer as USB to see if it's a general problem or specific to this printer? It sounds to me more like a problem with the Ubuntu installation than the driver itself.
