I ended up buying one of these. It's pretty cool, though I'm not sure how I'll feel in the long run, having given up my 20 GB player for a 4 GB Miniplayer. I wanted to switch to a flash player, though, as I wanted something smaller in size.
I found information on meizume.com on how to encode videos with mencoder to play on the Miniplayer. Copy and paste this into a text file:
Code:
#!/bin/bash
mencoder "$1" -idx -noodml -ofps 20 -vf scale=320:-2,expand=:240:::1,crop=320:240,rotate=1 -ovc lavc -ffourcc XVID -lavcopts vcodec=mpeg4:vbitrate=384:vmax_b_frames=0:vhq -sws 9 -srate 44100 -oac mp3lame -lameopts cbr:br=128:mode=0 -o "$2"
Name it "meizu-enc" or whatever you'd like, and then run: ./meizu-enc source.file destination.avi
If anyone knows if improvements can be made to that script, in order to make it faster or provide a better quality file, feel free to share. I don't know anything about video encoders, but encoding with this script seems a little slow. Also, the resulting file plays sideways on my computer, though it plays correctly on the Miniplayer.
