If your running gnome and you want some nice graphical tools head over to this site http://sourceforge.net/project/showf...ckage_id=92164 and download the source for gnome-vfs software-manager and the trayicon. You should be able to build these from source without a problem, although you may need to install a couple of the *-dev packages such as synce-dev to get the appropriate header files installed.
NOTE: amd64 guys will need to edit the make file to get the gnome-vfs software to build. You will need to remove the -Werror flag otherwise a couple of pointer size warnings will cause the build to fail
Now you have all that installed you need to do a couple more steps to get hotplugging and file browsing working.
Follow the directions on this page http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func...group_id=30550 to get hotplugging working. Then you won't have to do "sudo synce-serial-start" manually anymore!
Then doto get gnome-vfs for synce working.Code:sudo cp /usr/etc/gnome-vfs-2.0/modules/synce-module.conf /etc/gnome-vfs-2.0/modules/
Now if you plug you pocketpc into it's cradle and start the trayiconyou should see a nice little pocketpc icon appear in your gnome tray. Right click it and you can browse your devices file system, install programs etc.Code:synce-trayicon
HTH,

I'm not understanding a lot of it:
I download gnome vfs,software manager and trayicon
Then i did tar xzvf synce-gnomevfs-0.9.0.tar.gz
and a lot happend,just at the end I got an error
checking how to run the C++ preprocessor... /lib/cpp
configure: error: C++ preprocessor "/lib/cpp" fails sanity check
See `config.log' for more details.
What now?
Hello to all,
does anyone had the follwing problems and solved them?
1. sync ppc->evolution calendar doesn't work
2. sync evolution->ppc doesn't work at all
Maybe point 1. is a mis-setting in my system. I'm new to ppc.
Greetings and special thanx to tUrtleAE86 for starting this thread

Argh. So exactly how does one go about rattling the tin cup to encourage someone to fix this? Or should I just give up at go back to a piece of paper and pencil?
so what can you sync with an IPAQ? mail, tasks, calendar ?
seems like some people can sync some things but not all
if I cant sync appts, email and contacts then its worthless to me- i had to migrate back to outlook just to do this not fun with alot of contacts
I am still looking for help with the "can't initialize RAPI" error I mentioned earlier in this thread. I tried running this in another linux distro (Mepis) and got to the same point with the same error. What do I need to do now? (I would like to get this working as it is pretty much the only reason I keep my XP OS loaded, so I can sync my PDA).

HTH,

thanks roboguy- is there an imap app or something?Originally Posted by roboguy
The mail application on your pocketpc will let you set up an IMAP account. It just depends if your mail provider lets you work that way. Gmail for example is POP3 only.Originally Posted by Magneto
