Really slow compuet - what can I do?

I have a really slow 200mhz pc, qith 32mb of ram. All I really want to do is access the internet with Firfox and use e-mail with thunderbird, and have it on linux.

None of the four main ubuntu variants will run on it, according to their system requirements, and I'm not dure if it can boot from the CD-Rom drive anyway.

Can you recommend any distros that might be useful for this - it runs Windows 98 at the moment, albiet quite slowly, so that might help with guaging what it can do.

If there is nothing it can do, I shall just hjave to install Firefoc and Thunderbird on winows, but I want to run of linux if I can (I don't really care about if it has a GUI, although I'm nopt sure whether Thunderbird and firefox will work without one

I would install Xubuntu or better yet, Fluxbox, if I were you.

Perhaps this computer could be usable, if you do an ubuntu server install and then use apt-get/aptitude to install X, icewm, and whatever else.

You don't need to be able to boot from the CD; you just need a floppy disk, on which you can put "smart boot manager". It is included on the ubuntu CD somewhere.

32 MB of Ram is just too too low. Fluxbox would be a good choice for a ubuntu install but I recommend a older distro for these systems.

It needs lots more memory for xubuntu, and I don't think it will run live cds n- qhat's fluxbox - it sounds interesting

For that machine, install Damn Small Linux, it will run circles against Windows 98, plus it comes with the apps you need.

Or do a debian floppy+net install (runs on a 50Mhz/32Mb ram) I have just console right now, but I guess it could run fluxbox/openbox or something...
Btw: Have somebody made a comparision between wm's/de's and I mean just not the biggest, but the more light too?

I'd suggest Damn Small Linux, but a server install of Ubuntu with IceWM or Fluxbox installed will work well enough as well.
But I mean no harm nor put fault
On anyone that lives in a vault
But it's alright, Ma, if I can't please him.
