Will Ubuntu / Cegeda work with my games?

Hi. Ive been dual booting for a while and given the recent actions of everyone's favourite monopolist, Im going to scrap Windows permanantly. I have an xbox as well, but hey, no-ones perfect .

I dont play many PC games, but has anyone had success with the following using Ubuntu and Cedega?

    - Red Alert 2
    - C&C Generals
    - Civilisation 3 and 4 (a must!)
    - Operation Flashpoint (I know theres an xbox version, but the PC version has a neat scripting api for custom missions)

    Thanks.

For this kind of thing, it's better to check either Cedega's, or Wine's websites. For wine, you might want to try searching for you games in their applications database.

I used Cegeda at one time and never had much luck getting anything to run. I use Wine now and Crossover for running non native apps.

PS. As everybody has said, check the wine apps database for help.

I'm a huge Civ Fan, and have tried running Civ IV both with Cedega and wine, Cedega themselfs says that Civ IV is working under Cedega, not for me though, and not under wine either.

Of that list, C&C Generals should run, and CivIV maybe. I do not have any experience to relate on that though.

Red Alert might run, but OFP will not. It quits about halfway through the install, and will not run from a windows install, or from a windows install copied to Ubuntu.

I used Cedega because of that database. Cedega DOES NOT support all of the games listed. Try wine before you waste your money.

Wow. Wine has progressed a lot since my last visit.

Thanks for the help, guys. The apps database is really useful (wasnt there last time I visited - with SuSE 9).

Re: Will Ubuntu / Cegeda work with my games?

Well, even if you had bad experiences with cedega that don't mean it won't work for someone else furthermore you don't need to buy cedega to test it because AFAIK there's now an evaluation version.
So IMHO the way to go for someone who is ready to spend a bit of money is to try cedega through the evaluation version and see if the game works then if they don't work use wine.

But i can confirm you that in term of performances nothing is better than cedega for the moment.
