    Server or Desktop?

Although you all use linux, where and for what purpose do you use it?

Do you have it just at work as a server, but use Windows on the desks, or do you have it at home as the sole OS and main entertainment platform?

    Re: Server or Desktop?

I run Ubuntu on my firewall/router/Quake 2 server machine.
I also have Ubuntu on my desktop machine, and I dualboot with WinXP.
XP I use mainly for games, I handle everything else in Ubuntu, video playing, document writing, music etc.
BUT yesterday I got Daggerfall working with Ubuntu using dosemu and freedos(Dosbox was just too slow), and I'm happy now
(Haven't booted to XP the entire day, can't say the same about playing DF )

    Re: Server or Desktop?

I do only have one machine which can be used for Linux to test it out.

But I have issues over issues with that machine. But Ubuntu is running on it some time now (Kubuntu to be exact).

    Re: Server or Desktop?

On desktop at home, have a server here but not fully configured yet. Will use it to replace my Active Directory monger once I figure out how to get LDAP set up.

    Re: Server or Desktop?

I use Ubuntu as my desktop, just doing the internets, gaming and all that jazz. naa mean.

PS:Is it just me or does the 'desktop at home' option have 100% next to it? Or is that the way its meant to be?

I use debian sarge for my server at home and servers at work. I use ubuntu for my desktop at home.

We use windows desktops at work sadly. Can't use anything else because of the software we use.
