Note: Those are red herring warning messages. You can make them go away by renaming /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist to /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf

    tr1sth3t Here's how I'd proceed from here:

    1) Did the reinstall/reboot of modem-manager work?

    2) If not:

tr1sth3t in post #166 it says:

Which may relate to why your dmesg complains about not having firmware. As we discussed, you can connect to the internet and run jockey(System->Administration->Hardware Drivers), and add/enable the driver/firmware with fwcutter

    3) okay is it working now? If not again try the reinstall of modem-manager reboot routine.

    4) working now? If not, I think I'd use Synaptic to install ndisgtk (System->Administration->Windows Wireless Drivers) and add the windows driver (point to the .inf file for the driver you're using from the file you unzipped. I think it would be one bcmwl5.inf)

    5) working now? try the reinstall modem-manager reboot

    6) If its still not working, see my the link in my signature for GUI wireless installation and see if i'm forgetting anything.

Relating to what we were discussing.. so that you don't need to be
To make a repository of an iso image:

    Code:

If it tells you where/what those files are you could remove them manually, then run it again and see if it is satisfied.

    It gives the message below

Not all files are removed, as different distributions installed
    ndiswrapper files at different palaces
    run uninstall as many as....

It doesnot say those files are found. They arenot the files in ndiswrapper-1.56 directory, right?
Then, how can I find them?

Hey im a bit new to linux but my friend had vista on his inspiron 1525 laptop and it just wasnt working well so I put ubuntu 10.04 on it. I followed these instructions and I am pretty sure I did everything right and got the driver for his specific wireless card installed, but Im just not sure what to do after you install the driver. I put wifi radar on his computer but it's not picking anything up and Im not sure how I can check to see if the driver is actually install correctly or if I just need to manually configure the wireless connections mask and IP for as a new connection using wifi radar. I hope that makes since.

Thanks NUboon2Age - that got it working. Your notes should be used to update the tutorial, that seems a little out of date now (2007?)

Re: HOWTO: Dell Inspiron E1505 Wireless (Broadcom 1390 WLAN)

I followed your instructions and they are pretty good. However I still cannot see my wireless signal.

    Here's what I have done:

I have disabled FN-F2 key in BIOS so that the application calls the wireless.

    I can see wlan0 when I
    sudo iwlist scanning

"wlan0 Interface doesn't support scanning: Network is down"

I've tried "Ifconfig wlan0 up" but I don't have permission I am met with:
    SIOSIFFLAGS: Permission denied

Another issue I un-packed ndiswrapper-1.56.tar.gz at the top, at my root User@Computer-Name:~$

Could this be the source of my problem?

I am running Hardy Heron ver 8.04 (and have updated the system so that the upgrade is current)

I inadvertently cleared out Windows XP on this old laptop, a Dell Inspiron 1150 (Not a big issue I feel liberated)

I have downloaded the correct Dell driver R115321.EXE using wget. Everything seems to be there in place.

I have a Dell Wireless 1350 LAN Mini PC Card. When I was running XP I did use the Dell Wireless Utility to use wireless.

Thanks in advance for all your help. I'm getting close...
