Got this working for Jaunty x64.

    Note that
    dpkg -x xfoil_6.97-1_i386.deb .
    sudo cp usr/lib/libg2c* /usr/lib32/
    rm -r usr
    should have actually read
    dpkg -x libg2c0_3.4.6-8ubuntu2_i386.deb .
    sudo cp usr/lib/libg2c* /usr/lib32/
    rm -r usr
It's been a really long time so I don't expect that this happened, but was a x64 .deb ever developed?

Here is Xfoil for amd64, using double precision and the Intel fortran compiler. Tested on Fedora 12 and Ubuntu 9.10.

Hey thanks for all your hard work guys (with the tutorials and installation packages)!

I actually started an open aerospace community specializing in stuff like this (http://openae.org). We are currently hosting Icarosaurus's two xfoil DEB packages, along with directions on how to quickly get it running on Karmic.

You can find them all here | http://openae.org/xfoil-download

If any of you guys have some time, it would be great if you can contribute a couple of article to the community

Thanks again for all this wonderful information!

I realize this is a little late, but thanks for this! I just reinstalled XFOIL for my 64-bit machine and this made it a snap.

If you are using Lucid, apt-get install xfoil would do. I just knew it yesterday that Lucid comes with package xfoil 6.97. You can check here.
