    Burner detection etc. in linux/freebsd

    Hi,

I am interested to get information about the following:

    * supported burner modes (tao, sao, dao etc.) without the use of cdrecord
    * supported burner speeds (1x,2x etc) without the use of cdrecord
    * detection of the current medium in the drive (CD-R,DVD-R,DVD-RW etc.)

Could anybody give me some pointers to that?

I find that this is badly documented in linux/freebsd.

Something like this should be in a library so people could stop duplicating the work done by others.

"apt-cache search burn" will name a few libraries
