That whole Unity desktop thing sort of spooks me.

That kinda looks like you've got Conky on a transparency, and the images are getting faded out. You may want to consider switching to the weather font instead. They don't suffer quite so much from the obvious fade out effect.

The weather icons are fine and dandy, but if you're using a lua background script like VinDSL does, there's no real guarantee that the background won't be displayed over top of the icons. I imagine it's one variable or another to fix it, but do us a favour and post your configuration here so we can have a better look. There's not enough info in that other thread.

OK so you can kind see what I was going for in the screen shot but problem is that I can't see the text. Is there a way to make the text sit in front of the download and upload graphs?

Honestly? That idea of the graph behind the text bugs the crap out of me. It's got no real purpose to it. You can achieve an identical readout result by putting the graph below or to the side of the text, and it won't interfere with reading the numbers if you do so.

Feel free to ignore me on this. I know sometimes it's a style thing, but I'm just one for function coming before form. Sometimes it's gotta work before you can make it pretty.

Thanks for your opinion. For me it more towards style. I had it below but it was starting to make my conky to big so I thought I'd try it behind the vnstat. I like it there but its not really behind. I just want to have the vnstat text visible over the graphs.
