I am pretty sure you can list everything in a conky* that you are using screenlets for, without the higher use of CPU and Memory.

*Except the Ubuntu logo at the very top of your screenlets. And the darkened background that looks like the Vista sidebar.

Did *almost* everything with just conky+xcompmgr+transset
Almost as in that the Ubuntu logo is in just one color.

And everything else can be done very easily according to need taste and time available

    here is the rc file

    Hi guys,

I was wondering if it is possible to show performance ( top commando ) on your workstation from your server with conky

Re: Post your .conkyrc files w/ screenshots

I was wondering if anyone here who is experienced with Conky know if there's a way to make a scrolling horizontal news ticker using Conky.

I don't know anything about configuring Conky, so any help is appreciated.

Also, is it possible to display conky over a panel? I'd prefer to have the ticker show above the top gnome-panel, but if it's not possible than that is okay.

Have a script cutting the newsstream you want to read of and write the interesting part into some file. then simply have conky read it:

    script:
    Code:
    -catch news
-time=1, grab bytes 0 to 10 from news
    -echo to file
-time=2, grab bytes 1 to 11 from news
    -echo to file
    -...
and use the same time interval for conky to read from that file...

not tried myself but probably I'll give it a try tonight with the BBC rss feed...

I think displaying over a panel will be a lot trickier...
