How can I do that? Btw, I'm using the 1d1_AccuWeather_INT_images conky script pretty much straight out-of-the-box, so I won't post a screenshot of that cuz I'm sure y'all have seen it a thousand times.

    In your config use
    Code:
    own_window_type normal
    or
    own_window_type override
In some desktops using own_window_type desktop causes what you are seeing.
while own_window_type override can cause transparent widows to become opaque.
If your using compiz, own_window_type override does not work well when using transparency.

I always use own_window_type normal and then in ccsm
exclude conky from shadows, in the window decoration plugin...
    Code:
    (any) & !(class=Conky)
Also, in ccsm disable the Hide Skip Taskbar Windows setting,
so conky isn't minimized when showing the desktop.

    ^ Hey stinkeye

Long time no see. I'm lookin' at the equator, how you doing over there on my right.

That post above is for "unity" right? If so I have to remember that.

Hate it when "desktop" or "window manager" changes the answers to the same question.

    Hi, yeah in Unity.
In earlier releases override worked fine but does not work well with either of the transparency settings in the
latest couple of releases. They seem to start ok but then turn opaque when updating.

Safest setting is to let nautilus draw the desktop and use
    "own_window_type normal"

    PS: Been hot here.

I hate it when they change the game plan half way through the game. (ie: how code works)

Just because I'm curious - it's not one of mine, it works here. Debian SID with OpenBox

How's the humidity there? Being off the ocean, a breeze should keep that down.

This was the hottest summer my wife can remember and certainly the hottest in the 14 years I've been here with temperature hitting 33-38°C for over a month solid and the Heat Index somewhere in the 40's, with a record breaking 50°C on one day. Thank God it was only one day! Humidity was between 60 and 80% most of the time - that was the real killer.

    That's all gone now we're at a cool 25.7 | 25.7° today

Config works fine. Transparency and all.

In Aus we all gather at the coast like ants around a water dish.
The heat in Perth is bearable because it's usually not muggy and we
get a fairly strong afternoon seabreeze usually.
We get a few spells of 3 to 5 days in row of 37-42 max and mins of 23-27
with no wind but then will drop to around 30 for a few days.
Great beaches to offset the heat.

Thanks, stinkeye, for that information! My conkyrc had "own_window_type override" but when I changed it to "normal" that fixed the problem. WOO HOO!!! MUCH appreciated!

I'm not using compiz because..... [rant mode on...] it worked wonderfully when I was on Ubuntu 10.04 LTS but, a few days ago, I upgraded to 12.04 LTS and now my video is totally trashed! I managed to get control of the computer by using Gnome Classic and uninstalling compiz/emerald, but things are *still* a bit wonky once in awhile. So, a big "Thank you!" to Ubuntu for EOL'ing 10.04 LTS and creating 12.04 LTS so that now my computer looks/feels/acts more like Windoze! Way to go! [...rant mode off!]

Anyway, thanks again, stinkeye, for the help. I'm NOT going to get addicted to conkey with all sorts of gizmos and gadgets.... I hope! All I wanted was the local weather on my desktop and now I have that. Time to stop mucking with conky and see if I can figure out how to get 12.04 LTS to behave better with my ATI Radeon Mobility 5470 chipset so I can go back to compiz/emerald and Mac4Lin.

    Regards,

    Chris

Good. I'll add a second line to that:
    Code:
    ## Unity compatible for transparency

I HATE muggy! Heat I can stand if it's dry ...
I could stand being an ant around a water dish.
Want to trade living quarters for a year? hahahahahahaha

I warn you though I've been telling family and friends in Canada that Buenos Aires has 3 seasons:

Winter = mid to late autumn
Spring = early to mid summer
    Summer = hell with humidity
Autumn = mid to late summer

The good thing is: two summers

Let me know, I'll pack my bags.
