Funny you mention that, they did ask for help with the shuttle though.

In the centre: Kennedy Space, uses wlourfs "rotate LUA script" and the weather rotates between the 4 or 5 (can't recall at the moment) offical landing sites for the shuttle. It uses conkyForecast.

The two on Desktop 3 use mrpeachy's v9000 Weather LUA script, the one on Desktop 4 uses TeoBigusGeekus » Conky weather scripts using Accuweather/WUnderground/NWS/Weather.com, it's a creation by Dedier-T on the Ubuntu (fr) forums.

Teo's script can be seen again on Desktop #1, just using a different weather station. All weather on Desktop #2 is using mrpeachys v9000 script.

    Desktop layout:
    1·2
    3·4

If you want a specific conky just ask.

Yeah Sector11 is a wizard for sure. Mr. Peachy and Teo write really cool scripts that make the whole thing work, but Sector11 makes it look GOOD! My hat is off to all three of them!

Thanks to a tip given by Sector11 (to somebody else, long ago, in a different forum at that) I now have my fonts working correctly.

    Code:
    fc-cache -fv
    and reboot did the trick.

Such a big line to remember, I always forget it, so:

    edit your ~/.bashrc and add:

    Code:
    alias font='fc-cache -fv'
    alias sfont='sudo dpkg-reconfigure fontconfig'
I've never had to reboot, Strange that you do.

That's what I've been telling people for years! I can't write a script! Where mrpeachy, Teo, Mark, DK75, arclance, Crinos512 and a host of others can and do ... me, I just use them.

    I'm the 'layout' guy!

Re: Post your .conkyrc files w/ screenshots

Well I decided to add a splash of color to my desktop today. I went for a decidedly more neon color pallet.

Embarrassingly, it took most of the day to decide on the text colors for my minimalist conky; still not sure if I'm completely settled on it. Played with tons of new fonts and I think I only ended up adding the Ubuntu symbol and the wingdings numbers on the dual core bar graphs. After 3 months of looking at my same old conky, I needed a slight change of pace.

    edit your ~/.bashrc and add:
    Code:
    alias font='fc-cache -fv'
    alias sfont='sudo dpkg-reconfigure fontconfig'
I've never had to reboot, Strange that you do.
Thanks for the tip; I'll be editing my bash script in mere moments.

And, yes for some reason I had to reboot (or log out) before I could get the new fonts to start working in Conky (even though they worked immediately in other programs).

    @ Petro Dawg

HEY! That looks interesting. Don't be embarrassed at all, I've spend DAYS on testing various aspects of conkys. I find it relaxing now, and interesting with some of the "oh oh, ugly alert!", "hmmm neat!" or "Ooooo now that's good!" only to find the next tweak undoes all the goodness I found.

I have recently started using a new font: "monofur" - it's mono, it's got style and shape and if a monofont could be called sexy - this is it! (Opinion) see attachment - other than what is in the "small" circles, it's all monofur

RE: Reboot, yea, I know what you mean now.

This is a conky issue not an OS issue. Once you install the font it's there.

But since conky v1.8.5 it has been noted that just changing and saving the conky doesn't always work. Especially if you change max-min sizes, and now fonts.

It may not be a problem all the time, but enough to be really annoying!

That's why all my conky have a line at the top like this:
    Code:
    # killall conky && conky -c /media/5/Conky/Chronograph_mrpeachy.conky &
    • killall conky - we know
    • && - allows a second command on the command line
    • conky -c /media/5/Conky/Chronograph_mrpeachy.conky - starts the conky
    • & - can't remember why but it's there for a reason:

    Code:
     sector11 @ sector11
     25 Dec 12 | 13:43:25 ~
             $ killall conky && conky -c /media/5/Conky/Chronograph_mrpeachy.conky &

There is always KFC too: Kentucky Fried Conky - mrpeachy has a really nice KFC Icon for that as well. I must get that.
    Code:
    ## Kentucky Fried Conky
    alias kfc='killall conky'

    ## Kentucky Fried Firefox (iceweasel too)
    alias kff='killall firefox-bin'
Merry Christmas - This one marks 6 years of helping people with conky. Feels good!
