    Hi, Thanks to everyone that help me with getting conky to start, the last problem preventing it from starting I figured out on my own, I really appreciate the help, now I am going to move on to creating a calendar. I want to also add email, I use yahoo but I do not thing they allow me to connect with conky, if any one knows for sure please let me know. Also sence I am going to put 3 or 4 more conkys on my desktop, am I right in thinking I should create like .conkyrc, .conkyrc2 and so on so I will have different config files. Thanks in advance.

    Calendar is easy. You have two routes, there's a very nice mrpeachy lua script you can use, or you can nab a very basic one from VinDSL. E-Mail, you probably don't want if you're using yahoo. Pop protocols aren't very developed or useful in the slightest when reporting messages.

    Before jumping to multiple conky configurations, why don't you define what you want to do, why you want to do it, and see if there's a better way? You can have as many conky configurations as you like, and naming them doesn't matter. Once you're dealing with multiple configurations, you'll be changing your running command a little bit anyways. To something like this:

    Code:
    conky -c ~/path/to/script1/.scriptname1
    conky -c ~/path/to/script2/.scriptname2
    What you call the script doesn't matter after that point. You'll just be telling conky to run file x as a conky config, and file y as another conky config. I, personally, have .conkyrc.main, .conkyrc.network, and .conkyrc.clock. Other people just use .main, .bars, .whatever.

    Using:

    Code:

    df -h
    in a terminal instead of the fdisk command will show the mountpoints of your partitions; that way you dont't have to open the /etc/fstab file.

    I use dfh and dfk as bash aliases for "df -h" and df -k", actually. The man page for df is worth reading, there are a lot of uses for that command that could be used in a .conkyrc.

    Here is a Mr K conky script for email.

    The PPA was updated on page 40

    Read the first page for how the script is set up and read the last few pages for updates before you install.

    @wildmanne39

    Personally? I wouldn't use E-Mail at all. GMail, sure, there's a few ways to use it. But in general Conky is pretty useless and far too limited when using E-Mail.

    Do yourself a favour and try to design something. I don't mean draw it out, I mean define what you want out of Conky. Write that out for yourself, describe the features you want. From there, take the amount of your screen you're willing to sacrifice for Conky, and subtract that from your screen resolution you're currently using.

    This will really help you to see how much room you have for Conky, and what features you can afford to have. It may help you to better target your entire Conky at once, and perhaps we can speed you along your Conky Journey so to speak.

    Now, if at any time I'm sounding patronizing or that I'm rushing you, I don't want you to think that. This is just some advice for you. You seem to come into the threads you post in, knowing nothing, starting nowhere, and doing one tiny bit of Conky, only to come back for more of the same. What I'd like to do is get you going on the overall picture, so that you can really pick up some experience with the layout.
