    Re: Post your .conkyrc files w/ screenshots

    in order to get the public IP address I use this command ${execi 300 wget -O - http://whatismyip.org/ | tail}
    this works ok but since I use my laptop at 2 locations with 2 different IP addresses I see that whenever I come back from work and connect to my network that the script is still searching for the gateway from work instead of trying to locate the one from home
    is there a way to solve this strange behavior? perhaps by purging or deleting the settings that are still available somewhere?
    thanks for your help

    Paul

    I was wondering..
    Is there a way to comment a line in the TEXT area in conky?
    '#' works only in the settings part of the .conkyrc file.

    @ Paulus4605: I also had problems with the response time of the site you use for checking ip. Did the ip show up at work? Otherwise the problem is that the site doesn't respond and the script continues trying until you're home. Try another site for tracking your ip, e.g.:
    Code:
    ${pre_exec wget http://www.whatismyip.com/automation/n09230945.asp -O - 2> /dev/null; echo | tail}
    @ TSanchess: No, everything in the TEXT section is displayed, except the $color and that kind of stuff of course.

    @TSanchess
    You can try something like ${pre_exec # comment}.

    Great thread guys!
    There is none made at install, you must make your own by copying to your home dir. The sample stock .conkyrc is located at:
    /usr/share/doc/conky/examples/conkyrc.sample.gz
    rename to .conkyrc and move to your home dir.

    for trial & error configuring, use system monitor to kill the conky process & use a shell to start it after editing the conkyrc.
