Guess what i just spent the last 20 minutes doing...

I was moving my firefox bookmarks over from another computer to this one. the firefox profile is located in a hidden folder called .mozilla in your home folder. so i navigated through that and found "bookmarks.html" . I took the one from my old computer, and replaced the one i had in my current profile. After loading up firefox the same default bookmarks displayed... It didnt work. SO i tried it again! . Each time i copy the bookmarks.html over it works, but when i restart mozilla it erases the copy i just did and resets to a default. so annoying!

nope... exporting your bookmarks is the exact same thing as manually taking bookmarks.html out of your .mozilla folder and dragging it wherever. just checked to make sure . I tried Importing the html file on this computer but the button is faded out and not clickable

i think there are two sets of bookmarks in the firefox folders and you have to replace both of them. at least, that's something i remember from windows. i have no idea if it's the same case in linux.

The import button is faded out? Something's seriously wrong, then.

I think he's using Edgy w/ FF 2.0 beta. It was the same case for me, it wouldn't let me import from a file.

I don't know why it goes back to defaults though. I tried the same method and it kept my "imported" bookmarks without any problems.

If that's really the case, perhaps it's a bug report in the making.

You should be able to replace the entire folder so you get all of your system settings along with bookmarks. Not sure how it would work across different versions though.

There is an extension called Foxmarks that will synchronise bookmarks between computers; very handy if you regularly switch between machines or operating systems as I do.
