I've installed the ubuntu hoary hedgehoge version, then upgraded the distribution to breezy. Later on I have followed your instructions.
But I stucked in the beginning: after I have removed the old modules (2x sudo sh remove-old) it occured that:
'Old ieee80211 references found. In order to build the ieee80211 subsystem, prior versions must first be removed. You can perform this task by running this makefile as root via:
% sudo make check_old
and answering Y to remove the file references.
Aborting make .
make: *** [check_old] Error 1"
After I try this sudo make check_old the same message appeares. I saw that you mentioned, that on some systems there are some problems like this and you advice to unload the modules with modprob -r but using 'lsmod' I cannot see any ieee80211* modules. When I try to follow with the installation with 'sudo make install' I get the errors:
/usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.12-10-386/scripts/gcc-version.sh: line 1: gcc-3.4: command not found'
and a lot of more errors because of that. When I try to execute manually 'gcc-3.4' I also get the command not found, but gcc-4.0 works.
Main problem is that I am green with linux, not mentioning debian so now I'm in big troubles - I have uninstalled the ipw2200 (which worked fine, but without WPA) and now it doesn't work at all. I don't know how to proceed or go back.
Could you please help me in that matter? Thanks in advance.
