    Re: HOWTO: ipw2200 + wpa

i reinstalled breezy and followed the directions here along with Spier's directions in this post and it does work. I am using wpa2 currently. i do have an issue yet though. when it boots up i dont get an ip, i enter wpa_cli and enter "status" to see i am associated and all looks well. i then run dhclient but it times out. i then reenter wpa_cli and disconnect, then reassociate, then run dhclient again and i DO get an ip. this does work but it obviously not automatic. thanks to everyone for posting their results.

    Re: HOWTO: ipw2200 + wpa

I'm a complete newbie here, trying to make the wireless internet working on Ubuntu 5.10 (i've downloaded the ipw2200-1.0.8 drivers). Using this howto, I run into problems already when trying to compile the ieee80211-1.1.6 package
you need to make sure you install all the headers and development packages. go into synaptic and search for "linux 686", or "linux 386" or whatever your cpu is. and all the gcc stuff too. I'm not sure exactly what. I just installed everything that the search found.

    Re: HOWTO: ipw2200 + wpa

thanks royg. i installed the gcc package, all the headers and 386 development packages i could find (centrino is 386, right?) and then I managed to go through the howto's steps apparantly without problems.

but but....that's was too easy....after I rebooted the system, my wireless interface has disappeared completely from the network settings menu. i only have the LAN ethernet card and modem left there. i pricked around in different administration programmes, and it seems the card is still "visible" in e.g. system information/device manager. but not working.

    what might have happened?

    thanks,

    all the best,
    rasmus

Full disclosure: I'm not very good at this stuff.

The only thing I can think of is to check your cards' names (eth0, eth1, etc.) against the files the howto told you to make. I know in mine I had to find and replace the ethx to make sure that it matched my wireless cards. But that's just a guess.

    Re: HOWTO: ipw2200 + wpa

    thanks again.

in the end, though, i managed to solve the problem by reinstalling ubuntu (sic) and then - very strictly and in the right sequence - following the steps in this howto, paying special attention to always downloading the newest drivers.

    cheers,
    rasmus

As I say, it's all working, but what does "Can't set TKIP countermeasures: crypt not set!" mean?
I have the same error & the same question
At home (WPA-PSK) it works fine. But at university, they use PEAP : success to authenticate with wpa_supplicant but after no response from dhcp server. Does it error can be the source of the problem ?

    Re: HOWTO: ipw2200 + wpa

Thanks for the how-to. I've compiled everything but the wpa-thing. However, now my ipw2200 does not work anymore:

    Code:
    falknis ipw2200-1.0.6 $ modprobe ipw2200
WARNING: Error inserting ieee80211_crypt (/lib/modules/2.6.12-10-386/net/ieee80211/ieee80211_crypt.ko): Invalid module format
WARNING: Error inserting ieee80211 (/lib/modules/2.6.12-10-386/net/ieee80211/ieee80211.ko): Invalid module format
FATAL: Error inserting ipw2200 (/lib/modules/2.6.12-10-386/kernel/drivers/net/wireless/ipw2200.ko): Invalid module format
Does anybody know what the problem could be? I'm using kernel 2.6.12-10, ipw2200-1.0.6 and ieee80211-1.0.3

This made mine work after having trouble. Aside from that I followed the guide.

    Re: HOWTO: ipw2200 + wpa

Hi, my wireless card has been working since breezy install with no hassle for me.

I first of all would like to know wich version of ipw2200 i have installed, how can i know it? "lsmod | grep ipw2200" tells me that the module is loaded but which version?

Second, i'm compiling my own kernel, they say i have to uninstall the current version of ipw2200 before installing a new one, does it also apply if you compile a different kernel? Aren't modules kernel dependents??

    Thank you all
