I've been working on this 3 times in the last week, After I show BE the ubuntu file in downloads, I can go no further with getting ubuntu on USB. I have actually reinstalled Win10 three times, shut off Bitlocker, each time downloading ubuntu and BE. But keep getting the same error. After I show BE where the ubuntu download is and try to to continue in BE, the Curser turns into a red circle with a line through it. *(I pray someone is still here, the new discourse is a pain, signed in, but not allowed to post, apparently u have to introduce oneself, but go there and no button to create a post)

I am not familiar with balenaEtcher. I suspect that all these kinds of application work in the same way. We select a source image file (ISO image) and then select a target device (Drive). Are you selecting the USB memory stick? Is it large enough to hold the ISO image? Why have you reinstalled Windows 10 three times? Are you directing balenaEtcher to overwrite your Windows installation? Are you running balenaEtcher from the Winndows 10 installation? Or from another OS on another drive? Ubuntu Discourse is something we all have to get used to using. Ubuntu Forums needs a new platform to be based on. Some of our moderators have worked very hard for us by having discussions with the Ubuntu Discourse moderators and then working out what is needed to transition Ubuntu Forums into Ubuntu Discourse. This has required changes for Ubuntu Discourse. Ubuntu Discourse was not a place to ask for support and help. It was a place where announcements could be made by particular teams and only those who were team members could make comments (or reply) in that topic. That has not changed. But on the Ubuntu Discourse we now see this: https://discourse.ubuntu.com/ Click "Start her" and we see this: https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/welco...and-help/49951 Select a category (section) such as Ask a different install Question and we see this https://discourse.ubuntu.com/c/306 Write out your question and click the plus + sign to create a new topic (thread). Of, course we have to be logged in to do this. And our Ubuntu Single Sign On account will be of use here. Trying to post (reply) in the other categories requires that we have a certain level of credit. Even then the inhabitants of the other categories are not used to the likes of Ubuntu Forum users joining in. Regards

Great info, I went to Rufus, even though Ubuntu download page recommend balenaetcher, is was able to get Ubuntu on ubs, it installed, it loaded, it failed over and over to install permanently. It sent an error report, now I'm downloading Ubuntu from a different mirror and will also try a different USB, a 15 GB USB , the other one was larger, but I've had Ubuntu on both. So progress but no medal. Through the years I've had Ubuntu on several laptops, I fear windows is trying to hinder installs? You have a lot of excellent info and I'll look at all of it thank-you!
