    bad install of Ubuntu 24.04

I am trying to install Ubuntu 24.04 onto a HP DL360 Gen 9 with 96Gig Ram, 6 TB of storage the initial install seems to work fine, after I perform the update and upgrade nothing appears on the desktop except the network icon, speak and power upper right and the Ubuntu icon bottom left. nothing else appears, the cursor does show and move

What does 'seems to work fine' mean? Did you actually install Ubuntu to a drive on the computer? Did it show successfully installed? Did you reboot and select the drive on which you had installed Ubuntu and boot it? Did you then run the update/upgrade commands from a terminal, reboot and have the situation you describe? When you ran the update/upgrade commands from a terminal, did you watch the output and see any warning or error messages and if so, what were they?

Other questions: How many monitors do you have? How are the displays set up (joined, mirrored)? Have you checked for any other desktop screens (super key or app-list icon when available)? Does ctrl-alt-t pop up a terminal?

Try switching to another TTY terminal to see if the issue persists:

    Ctrl+Alt+F3

    Login with username and password.

    What graphic card is installed?
