    Question Authentication required

    Every time I open Chrome for the first time when turning the PC on or after a reboot, I get the following message opening Chrome;
    Authentication required
The login keyring did not get unlocked when you logged into your computer.

One more thing, if I hit the cancel button 3x, Chrome starts anyway. And I can close it and open it afterward with no problem till the next time I start the system.

My problem is that I do not have to logged into my system. All other applications works fine.

How can I resolve this issue?

    OS: Ubuntu 24/04 (PRO)
    KDE Plasma Version: 5.27.11
    KDe Frameworks Version: 5.115.0
    Qt Version: 5.15.13
    Kernel Version: 6.8.0-48-generic (64-bit)
    Graphic Platform: Wayland

    Re: Authentication required

I have never had your problem even when I had Google Chrome browser installed. I do not automatic login. I am a home user and no one has access to my computer but I still shutdown the machine and log in when I boot the machine.

The system has a password manager (also called a wallet in some distributions). When we enter a password on login we open the password manager. Have you noticed that when you visit a web site to buy something the seller web site creates an account with you including a password and when you log in to that web site again using the password the browser asks to save the password? Accept that and your password is saved in a password manager which has to be unlocked when the browser is loaded.

I have no problem with the browser suggesting a username when I access my bank's web site but I do not want the browser suggesting a password even though it is convenient. This is the way I am.

That is what is happening with you. It is a security feature. Here is a question: Is it secure to have passwords stored in a password manager and have automatic login? Or, never shutdown the machine?

I cannot help you with KDE. I do not use it.

    Regards
It is a machine. It is more stupid than we are. It will not stop us from doing stupid things.

    Re: Authentication required

    Hi Graham,
Thank you for your reply and follow up question. And from your point of view, I'm going to add a password to my start-up screen.

    Have a good week.
