Every time I log in I get two pop-ups saying "Authentication required to refresh repositories". I have to enter my password. How do I get rid of pop-up?
That pop up is necessary to authorise certain security updates and upgrades to the Linux kernel. We can open Software & Updates>Updates tab and set Automatically check for updates to "Never." I do not think we can stop Ubuntu from checking for security fixes. So, I suggest that the only way to never again see those annoying pop-ups is to not connect to the internet. Or, at least only connect to the internet when you want to update the operating system. The moment we connect to the internet Ubuntu will check for security fixes. This is my understanding. Regards

Perhaps disable the update notifier in your list of autostarted applications. I know where that is in Xubuntu but have no idea about Ubuntu assuming that your version.

Is this an account that has auto-login (no password to login)? Or did this start after changing your password? Or has it always done this from the day you installed Ubuntu?
