Hello, I'm excited to learn Ubuntu and Linux OS

    Hello and hi guys!

Belated Happy Halloween and advanced Merry Christmas to you guys, most especially to the people who frequent this forums most of the time like the moderators of this messageboards. Anywho, I'm pretty much really new to Linux and Ubuntu and I'm quite liking what I'm experiencing so far. I started studying the terminal commands like a year or so ago but went back to Windows, but now Ubuntu and Linux is here to stay for me. I'm actually thinking of slowly migrating to Linux totally. Albeit, the problem that I would have are the drawing programs in Linux are so limited. The only app that I can compare to Adobe Photoshop is Krita which is available in Linux. I use Photoshop for digital painting by the way.

That's it for now. Please be nice to me as I am a complete beginner in Ubuntu and Linux if I ask some questions here.

Cheers and hope you guys are having a good day,
    Vin

    Welcome to Ubuntu Forums

That's it for now. Please be nice to me as I am a complete beginner in Ubuntu and Linux if I ask some questions here.
A very large part of this forum site is set aside for asking questions. We do not have a problem with people asking questions. It is the answers that pose a problem. To me anyway.

And as for being nice - well, we do sign a code of conduct. Actually, the Ubuntu Code of Conduct does not mention being nice. Does being considerate, respectful count as being nice?

    https://ubuntu.com/community/ethos/code-of-conduct

This forum has its own code of conduct or rather Rules.

    https://ubuntuforums.org/misc.php?do=showrules

No specific mention of "nice" but the general intent is there. The Rules are more about what not to be like rather than the kind of person it would be nice to be.

Thank you for stimulating in me a review of the Ubuntu Code of Conduct and the Ubuntu Forums Rules.

    Regards
It is a machine. It is more stupid than we are. It will not stop us from doing stupid things.

    Have you looked at GIMP?

Hello and welcome. GIMP is a pretty good image editor and painting program. Inkscape is another that does vector graphics. I use both of them and they work well for me.

Some other resources that I've used to learn Linux that I like to share are:

Where you can get information on commands and what they do. It's a good reference for when you're following online instructions and tutorials.

    and

There are a couple of free PDF books there that really helped me with working with the terminal and command line tools.

I have been a graphic designer for over 20 years, and I am well versed in the ways of Adobe. GIMP is one of the closest pieces of software to it's Windows/Mac competitor, Photoshop. You can do just about anything in GIMP that you can in Photoshop... you just need to learn GIMP's interface. Most of the tools are similar though.

Glad to see you here! My only suggestion that has served me well in any online forum/social media/etc... Is that "offense is intentional."

    My advice about online forums:
If someone replies to you like "Try GIMP instead," to your photoshop question... remember that they weren't being rude... merely "efficient."
Now, it someone said "Look stupid, you should know about GIMP." Now, that's being offensive. The language used is quite specific, and intentionally rude.
