Files not showing on desktop after upgrading from ubuntu 22.04 to 24.04

I recently upgraded one of my PCs from Ubuntu 22.04 LTS to Ubuntu 24.04 LTS, and after the upgrade, I noticed that the files previously visible on my desktop (home screen) are no longer showing up on the desktop. However, these files are still present in the "Desktop" folder when accessed through the file manager.

I have tried restarting my system, but the issue persists. How can I make the files visible on the desktop again?

Furthermore, after upgrading, I cannot hear any sounds on the computer. How to fix it?

Check System Settings > Ubuntu Desktop.
There is now a toggle option to show or not show icons on the desktop.

You can also check sound setting in Settings > Sound.
Though that's really a separate issue...

Thanks for your reply. In the matter of desktop, I attach a screenshot which will suffice that problem lies somewhere.

In case of no sound in PC, another screenshot is also attached which will also speak that there is no problem in settings.

This is pertinent to point out that Ubuntu 24.04 was not installed afresh but it was upgraded through software updater. I was rather waiting for release of 24.04.1 version so that I can avoid the teething troubles of first release (24.04). But my hopes turned into despair. Is it bug? Should I roll back to Ubuntu 22.04? There was no such problems during Ubuntu 22.04 OS.

No problems... it's always wise to check the simplistic problems first. I cannot tell you how many times I have resolved issues by just turning on a software switch, or "enabling" some feature that is now off by default in an updated version.

So, I will ask a crazy question... are there any files in your Desktop Folder?

If so, and it still persists... has the default Desktop folder been changed?
