reboot brought me straight to windows (no grub)

2/ I check the power options, no fast boot activated:

3/ but the hiberfil.sys file is present here, I will turn the hibernation option OFF and delete it.

4/ I am running a chkdsk now from command prompt.

Now, your efibootmgr does not have the Ubuntu entry, which you had in post 16.
    Two suggestions:-
Can you boot Ubuntu from your PC boot menu?
Create an efibootmgr entry for Ubuntu?

Re: problem with dual boot ubuntu/w10 at GRUB: cannot load image

Now, booting into the UEFI menu > File Browser Add Boot Option > > Select...

    • Ubuntu brings me GRUB.64.efi (not shown on the attached pictures, sorry)
    • Boot brings me Boot.64.efi
    • (the Manjaro entry is from an earlier distro I was using, I should clean that up)

    Should I choose grubx64.efi or bootx64.efi?
I assume the question here is: should I add the GRUB entry or directly the Ubuntu entry... what will happen on the next update/ grub update?

Re: problem with dual boot ubuntu/w10 at GRUB: cannot load image

The bootx64.efi is seen as a drive entry.
The bootx64.efi is originally s a copy of Windows boot file, but installing grub normally copies shimx64.efi to /EFI/Boot/bootx64.efi. The drive entry or /EFI/Boot/bootx64.efi is a backup entry. The only way I can tell grubx64,shimx64, bootx64 & Windows bootmgfw.efi is by file size and which folder in ESP they are in.

I do not have UEFI Secure boot on, but it still uses shimx64.efi. Grubx64.efi only works with secure boot off, but shimx64.efi seems to work with UEFI secure boot on or off.

I thought Windows UEFI boot entry was always bootmgfw.efi as shown in your UEFI boot entry for Windows. It should also be in the /EFI/Microsoft folder in the ESP.

Re: problem with dual boot ubuntu/w10 at GRUB: cannot load image

I'm guessing that your windows boot files are corrupted if you cannot boot with the windows entry you show in post 20. That is as it should be. Do you still get the same result trying to select that option? Seems pretty bizarre to me that when you created the ubuntu entry in your EFI windows disappeared and when you created the windows entry, ubuntu disappeared.

Ubuntu (actually the GRUB loader was listed in the boot order entries (on the 4th entry), it is still named "windows boot manager" but it's the Grub! The Grub that cannot load W10
The FIRST "windows boot manager" entry is booting W10 normally.

Re: problem with dual boot ubuntu/w10 at GRUB: cannot load image

    now I am thinking,
since the windows boot entry manually added works (thanks to Oldfred) but the windows boot in grub entry seems corrupted...

    should I try to run
    Code:
    if [ "${grub_platform}" == "efi" ]; then menuentry "Microsoft Windows 10 UEFI/GPT" { insmod part_gpt insmod fat insmod chain search --no-floppy --fs-uuid --set=root $hints_string $fs_uuid chainloader /EFI/Microsoft/Boot/bootmgfw.efi } fi
    ...according to this method?

I need your advice (sorry that it's taking so long, I really appreciate your help)

Can you still boot into Ubuntu 24.10?
If so, please open a terminal and enter:-
    Code:
    efibootmgr
    What do you see?
