Your problem description is somewhat lacking.
Creating a boot-USB with rufus is normally fine.
How did you set up the BIOS on your machine?
Which Lubuntu version are you trying to install?

    I agree with u/nu29914.

First I'd want to know the Lubuntu ISO you're using, as release details let us know what software stack you're using, which is details we can compare with your provided hardware details. You've not provided that basic detail.

The ISO I mention is useful as some releases had updated installers put on them, which is why I mentioned that; but release detail is the starting point. As Linux Mint booted; you can contrast the software stack on that system with the Lubuntu ISO and know why they differed in that regard, alas you didn't provide any specifics (booting and using system). As for installers, Linux Mint & Lubuntu differ.

I'll provide the Lubuntu manual link for Lubuntu 24.04 LTS and the Installation page - https://manual.lubuntu.me/lts/1/1.3/installation.html

You'll note reference is made to the SAFE GRAPHICS option which can be required for hardware using NVIDIA for example. For older hardware however, the important bit is the release & ISO details (as Lubuntu ISOs for a release can install with different stacks; default selected by ISO used to install; for older hardware I generally recommend using the GA kernel stack if its an option for your unstated release).

this was what i did on rufus

btw i tried to use balena ether. but it gave me this error (both on mint and lubuntu)

the version i used is written here. i didn't think much of it cause rufus worked.

btw, sorry for bothering you. i'm very much a web browser guy. so i'm not good at these.

    Re: lubuntu not installing

    lubuntu iso name : lubuntu-24.04.1-desktop-amd64

i downloaded it from here https://cdimage.ubuntu.com/lubuntu/r...ktop-amd64.iso

i did follow the manual. btw when i booted lubuntu it didn't show me the page shown on the manual. (https://ibb.co.com/t47sDxZ)

mine was safe install and oem install only.

linux mint was booting from the pendrive. but when i tried to install it, it was trying but didn't write or change anything on primary storage. i think that is the problem. secure boot is off.

if u want to know about the booting, see the previous reply. please let me know if u need anything more. i'm very sorry for bothering.

    Re: lubuntu not installing

I'm not familiar with RUFUS sorry; I've never used it, however I am aware that it has the capabilities of reformatting the ISO during write (ie. via options on the ISO write menu), and your selection of a format implies (to me; rightly or wrongly) that you're reformatting the ISO which can cause it to not boot/install on all hardware.

We QA test Lubuntu (as with all Ubuntu systems) so they work on legacy/BIOS/CSM, uEFI and Secure-uEFI hardware when the ISO is cloned or written without changes to the install media. It is my understanding that RUFUS calls the clone write 'DD mode' writing; other options will work BUT you'll have to use the correct options for both ISO and your hardware.

This is what I see; but please NOTE I'm no expert in RUFUS; having never used it, and only seeing problems when people use inappropriate options for their hardware.

    Re: lubuntu not installing

Did you verify the download of the iso files for Lubuntu and/or Mint? This is explained on their sites.

You indicate you want to switch from windows, do you still have windows installed on this machine? If so, which release version? How many physical hard drives does the machine have? Do you have free space on the hard drive on which to install Lubuntu/Mint? Is this machine UEFI capable? You indicate that Mint booted from the USB and you were able to get it to run to attempt to install but it failed. So what happened? You should have seen warning/error messages if it was unable to write to disk. If you can boot either Mint/Lubuntu from a USB or a DVD, do that with the Try option and when you get to a Desktop, open a terminal and run the command below to get information which you can post here which will answer some of these questions:

    Code:
    sudo parted -l
Lower case Letter L in the above command.

    Re: lubuntu not installing

i downloaded the iso from official site (check previous post)

    win version
    Edition Windows 10 HomeVersion 22H2
    Installed on ‎9/‎11/‎2024
    OS build 19045.4894
Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.19060.1000.0

mint booted from the usb. when i tried installing, it was doing it but after about 6 hours i saw that it was just looping within 4-5 processes. then i killed the machine.

i don't think it has enough stroage to install on the primary storage. but i thought i could format it after it booted (like windows)

this laptop is a 2020 laptop. so i'm sure its uefi capable ( and i saw the word in bios)
