nothing to worry about,
It shows you the number of unread notifications from that specific app, in this case File. If you started copying a large file or a large folder, the notification may tell you that copying is complete

Cosmic Desktop
Usually you can see what's going on by clicking the clock. There will appear a dot next to it.

If you click on the date/time in the top bar it will bring up the calendar and notifications centre where you can clear the notifications.
