Re: The Future of the Forum

As Dec 09 is approaching, I suppose someone will have to delete 'Ubuntu Forums' from:

    https://ubuntu.com/community/support && https://ubuntu.com/#community

And, 'Ubuntu Discourse Help and Support', will be needed in replacement:

    https://discourse.ubuntu.com/c/support-and-help/306

    Addendum:

I suppose, 'Ubuntu Discourse Help and Support', needs to be flagged, as a place for support, in the ISOs.

There is already talk about updating the install ISOs for the next release.

I can't recall if anything yet has been said about the websites — probably it has, but memory can do odd things when you get older. But if it hasn't it will no doubt come up in the next several days.

Re: The Future of the Forum

I have looked at Wayback Machine and although ubuntuforums.org is recognised as parent URL it seems that specific URL's (such as posts) should be archived. That is, if users have specific URL's of interest (such as their history) back them up on Wayback Machine now.

PS. And here is this discussion archived for posterity. I hope. Perhaps not.

Re: The Future of the Forum

As you may have noticed, the forums settings have been changed. You can still post to existing threads to get your issues solved (if possible), but no new threads will be accepted. That will stay in place until 9 January 2025 or so, when the entire forums will go read-only.

We won't ding you for multiple posting if you decide to start a new thread on Discourse and either summarise what you've already tried, or link back to your thread here. Just make it clear that you've transferred to Discourse so that the post here can be closed.

The current information on new user posting on Discourse is here: https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/ubunt...-welcome/49981. There have been a few changes as we've figured out what the Discourse software will allow, so please check that the info you have is up to date.

There is a post open in Forum Feedback and Help for those who genuinely get stuck and can only post here, namely https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2502976 It will be checked regularly.

The good ship Ubuntu Forums is going into dry dock, but the crew are still busy and active. And that's what makes for community, not the software platform. Come and join us as we set sail on a new voyage!

Re: The Future of the Forum

I have nothing new to add here, but I'll provide a link to the Fridge notice on the topic that was sent (on behalf of Ubuntu Forums Staff; 8 Dec 2024)

    https://fridge.ubuntu.com/2024/12/08...ums-migration/

( Copy also found on Planet Ubuntu )

The text was pretty much what appeared on the front page of this site, so I won't repeat that (its outdated now anyway), but I'll quote the later bit here

    Thank you guiverc!

It's been fun, fulfilling, and at times frustrating, but worth the time and effort to work with a world wide community!
