I seen the edit icon next to my user name where I can update my user name.
Where may I update my password for the discourse?

You can update your password in your Ubuntu One account, which is the same account you made when you joined here.

Login to Ubuntu Discourse is ONLY via Ubuntu SSO (login.ubuntu.com)
If you truly wish to change your password, it must be done there.

ok, I believe I'm ready to go on the discourse.

Hopefully, all personal preference questions concerning the Discourse display layout are answered in something like a FAQ section under the Avatar somewhere.

I sent out a scouting party and there seems fertile soil and water there.
But old warriors .. TheFu, OldFred et al (many) .. need to be invited. The water seems warm.

I seem to have a new @name on my Visa. I guess that is not a bad thing. New country, new citizen.

If you do want your old name back, a mod can do that. Just let me know which name you want, plus an alternative in case it's been taken, and I can change it. Probably best done now (or soon), before you rack up too many posts.

    But it's over to you.

Wow, I just finished setting up my account on Ubuntu Discourse. No problems so far, thank goodness .
I haven't been on this site for quite a while and was stunned on reading of the changes today; I guess I was noticing
the site slowing down for a few years now so I am not really surprised at the decision.

It has been a good 14 years here, thanks to all the members, and especially the ever helpful Staff and Admins. Hope to see
all the old faces from UF on the Ubuntu Discourse; I'm set up there but am not really posting just yet.

    Cheers all, yeti.

I am glad you made the jump to discourse with us, I believe its going to be very good for the Ubuntu Forums, I have been very happy being a part of the transition team.
