I was going to make a full switch to a flavor of Linux

Where as it used to be simple to get things working under Linux and I was looking forward to making the switch it has now been made very difficult, I don't know what is going on but all I wanted to know is something that I considered very simple and normally I would have had an answer within a day.

I am running two server boards, neither of which have any audio hardware, all I want to know is - is there a sound card or USB DAC available for Linux that can do 5.1 channel audio and output via the 3 cables normally used for 5.1 channel connections. I am running Ubuntu 24.04 presently but can't get any info about sound cards that will definitely work with it with the pre requisites I mentioned.

I'm not going to be able to switch away from Windows without audio.

Re: I was going to make a full switch to a flavor of Linux

I wasn't able to help since 5.1 audio "just works" with the built-in motherboard audio options on my systems. That's basically been the way things have worked for all my systems the last 20+ yrs, since the SB 5.1 Live days.

So if you have a discrete audio card that works with Linux, please help the OP out.

falloutboy2 tried to get help previously, Ref: https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread....2#post14202532 and we/I weren't able.
