Hi all. I am running Ubuntu off a USB and have been doing so for a month with no issues. I shut down my laptop after it froze then when I booted it up again the sound wouldn't work on my internal speakers. Just headphones. Any ideas on how I can resolve this? Thanks. My system info Ubuntu 24.04 LTS Output device - Speaker / Alder Lake PCH-P MSI - Cyborg 15 A12U let me know if you need more specs.
Have you installed the latest firmware/BIOS updates for that computer?
No I actually think its an OS problem not a hardware problem. I put this in the wrong category. Can a mod please move this thread to a general OS category please? Thanks.
If you're using a live USB system the reboot after a crash will make no difference unless you have a persistent live system so give us all the details please. Is your USB running as a live OS or do you have a full install on a USB hard disk, ie a hdd or ssd connected by a USB cable?

I'm using it in try unbuntu mode not installed on Hardrive thats the option I have to choose everytime I start laptop so I tend to leave it on so I dont have to re-enter all my email passwords etc... I can access the HD using the file system but system boots straight to bios mode not recognizing the HD. I've been using it like this for about a month now with no problem with the laptops internal speakers. This happened after the screen froze. If I restarted everything resets, all my bookmarks in browser disapear, settings etc.... so no data retention. Hard disk has full install ubuntu but it started going straight to bios when restarting. So been using the live usb for about a month now.

Any ideas? I need to take my laptop to the repair shop soon to figure out thr BIOS problem. Don't want to risk messing with it myself.
