Hello everyone, I have a Dell XPS 9340 on which I installed Ubuntu 24.04. I had no issues until now (except for the non-functional webcam, which is a known issue on Dell's side). Since a recent Ubuntu update, I've been experiencing a graphical issue with horizontal video glitches appearing whenever there's movement. Is this issue known? Should I update or install a firmware or something else? Thank you in advance for your help.
Are you using a proprietary video driver? Open Software & Updates>Additional Drivers tab. You need to be connected to the internet. The utility will search for any proprietary video drivers. Alternatively, if a proprietary driver is already being used, you can disable it and reboot to use an open source video driver which may work just as well and not have the graphic issue that you are experiencing. Regards

Thank you for your response. First, I would like to clarify that the video glitches only appear on the internal screen of the PC. I have a second screen connected via HDMI through a USB-C adapter, and this one works perfectly. Regarding your question, here is the status of the additional drivers section. Intel Corporation: Unknown This device is using an alternative driver O Usiing Intel Integrated Image Processing Unit 6 (IPU6) driver from intel-ipu6-dkms (open-source) O Do not use the device I have tried both using the indicated driver and not using it, and I have the same issue regardless of the choice.
Okay, I have some news. When I boot with the 6.8.0-38-generic kernel, I have the issue. When I boot with the 6.8.0-31-generic kernel, the issue is gone. Do you think this is a bug that should be reported to the development team? If so, what's the best way for me to report this issue?
Hello, I have the same issue (colored horizontal lines) with my Dell Inc. XPS 13 9340 and Ubuntu 24.04. The kernel version linux-image-6.8.0-38-generic has the issue. Thew kernel version linux-image-6.8.0-36-generic doesn't have the issue.
I have just tried the kernel linux-image-6.8.0-39-generic/noble-updates. The issue of colored horizontal lines is still there on Dell XPS 13 9340.
Hi All, I, also, have a Dell XPS 13 9340, and having the same issues as you. EVen with the newest kernel: linux-image-6.8.0-41-generic. The last known good kernel was the -36, so I looked at the changes between 36 and 38 (the first with the problems) and I noticed a supposed fix / workaround for this bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...5/+bug/2046315 After following the link in that bug report (https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/drm/i.../-/issues/9739) it seems when PSR2 is enabled this triggers the glitches... There they proposed a couple for kernel command line flags and disabling PSR2 is the one that also worked for me: "i915.psr_safest_params=1" I think, for some reason, the workaround hasn't included our graphics card to disable PSR2 and that from 38 onward PSR2 is enabled... So, with this my glitches are gone and the laptop now also wakes fast from sleep...
IMHO, the 6.8 kernal has lots of problems especially in the area of video drivers. Best option is to boot with the 6.5 kernal. Edit: sorry, I see your on 24.04 so booting with the 6.5 kernal is not an option.

I am not sure where to update this. Thank you Update! thank you chat gpt for showing me how to turn off PSR2 and thank you to this thread for finding the issue. I have spent at least 6 hours trying to figure out whats wrong. this fixed it for the time being.

Dear gmon, would you please post the procedure you used to set the required parameter and turn off PSR2? I have never acted directly on the kernel and I could use some help. Thank you.
