    @TheFu
This is a good explanation of the various satellite orbits.
    A relatively simple summary: https://earthobservatory.nasa.gov/fe.../OrbitsCatalog

In my previous life, I worked for a contractor whose mission was to operate and maintain NASA's Tracking and Data Relay Satellite System (TDRSS). All of the satellites are in geo-synchronous orbits.

Here are two links that explain the complete system.

Tundra orbits are interesting for watching specific longitudes (east-west points): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Qzss-45-0.09.jpg has a good image. These orbits have huge differences in altitude between apogee and perigee. For Earth observations, that means sensors can't be really specific to the altitude. Can't say more. There's lots of public information on this stuff.

I looked at the NASA Orbits Catalog, but they only had the simple, easy orbits. Have you looked at the proposed orbits for some of the Artemis satellites and rescue vehicles? Those are crazy.

BTW, I've used TDRSS for some prior work. Thanks for that. The planned lifespan was 10 yrs. Those satellites lasted 26+ years. Impressive.

The TDRS satellites in orbit are actually replaced periodically. TDRS-A was the first one, TDRS-B was destroyed when the Challenger blew up; the addition of TDRS-C to orbit gave NASA the capability to cover 85% of the lower orbiting satellites including Space Shuttle from the White Sands Ground Terminal.
I don't know which generation of TDRS is on orbit now; I worked on the projects that developed TDRS-F and the Guam Remote Terminal, and that was over 25 years ago. The ground stations, computers and software, get upgraded periodically also; the radars get renovated. It is all a very complex system.

    Added:
I just happened to recall that when TDRS-A, still with limited capabilities, was retired, it was moved to an orbit where it could support communications with the Antarctic scientific community.

    All satellites eventually die.

But one could wonder. In many parts of the world, internet connections are shaky at best. Where I am, I cannot stream anything higher than 144p. Even at 144p, the video sometimes stops until the browser receives more data. But most streaming sites advertise "full HD", as if that was something to be proud of, as if this was not something excluding people in Africa and elsewhere...
It wouldn't surprise me if this were the case (sometimes).
We live in a highly western (and oriental!) oriented digitial world.

If certain infrastructure isn't provided, you have to do with less (or none).

    And improvisation is typical African

It has more to do with technology and with facilities than with 'racism'. Don't automatically look for that after everything.

African facilities depend upon African governments.
Maybe they have 'other' interests and their people other (real life) worries...

internet depends on your location, the further you are from where the site is hosted, the poorer your connection will be. If you've traveled a lot, you can find a good connection in any country in the world.
