Ubuntu themes are now on the Chrome Web Store!

Mauro Gaspari expresses his view that Ubuntu wallpapers are "absolutely breathtaking". Thus he undertook to share them with others not using Ubuntu, which has been achieved via themes for Chrome and Chromium-based browsers. With a link to another post which lists the themes created, Mauro thanks the creators of the wallpapers that are so wondrous.

Ubuntu Desktop’s 24.10 Dev Cycle - June Update

Oliver Smith reminds us the roadmap for Ubuntu Desktop 24.10 was provided last month, and gives us an update on progress. Firstly we're walked through permissions for the steam snap, mention of the GNOME 46.2 SRU for Ubuntu 24.04 LTS users is covered, before moving to the Ubuntu Desktop installer updates (which includs an OEM Config experience that will also reach Ubuntu 24.04.1 LTS). Also covered is App Centre improvements, Ubuntu docs and the Open Documentation Academy, with feedback welcome.

GNOME Expects to Use New “Showtime” as Core Video Player

We're told that the GNOME Desktop is soon expected to switch from using the Totem video player, to Showtime. We're reminded that Totem hasn't been maintained for nearly a year and is thus still GTK3. Ubuntu’s App Center Now Finally Supports Installation of Local DEB Packages

Marius Nestor tells us that users of Ubuntu 23.10 and Ubuntu 24.04 LTS can now use the App Center to install downloaded deb packages. Marius also alerts us to alert-message (non action) changes, and to the Ubuntu Desktop Installer.

New Linux Change Helps Ensure AMD Ryzen With NVMe Works After Resuming From Suspend

Michael Larabel reports the merge request for AMD Ryzen systems with NVMe solid-state drives that changes the s2idle suspend state to D3 mode. Michael gives us some background on why the change, directed to the 6.10-rc4 release. However the change will be back-ported to the stable Linux kernel series.
