At what point is it wrong?

I have to share this because it's absolutely hilarious...

Two people were talking at my office today to which one replied to the other "Luke... I am your father!"

A third person was walking past them when they heard it and replied "Wait. Seriously? Is Darth Vader really Luke's father?"

Everyone in the office (about 10 people) kinda stared at her blankly... and then we all realized that she truly wasn't aware.

One person said "Yeah, like, have you not seen Star Wars?"

She replied "Of course I have, but I haven't seen the rest of them..."

Soooo, what is the statute of limitations on spoilers?

Anyone who cares would have seen them all, say once a year from age 10 on. If she's 20, her "spoiler time limit" is up.

LOL! Statute of Limitations = Return of the Jedi (1983) / (2024) = 41 Years?

No, it isn't that simple. Anyone who is 20 yrs or older and hasn't seen the Star Wars movies isn't enough of a fan to be saved from spoilers. If you are a parent, you have a duty to provide the opportunity for your 10 - 20 yr old children to see the movies. Just like we don't spoil the "Easter Bunny" or "Santa Claus" fantasies for children, we shouldn't ruin the main plot twists in Star Wars - at least not in the first 6 movies - for younger people.

But at age 20, expecting everyone in the world NOT to reference key pop culture references they don't know is asking too much. There are lots and lots of pop culture referenced used daily that help people recognize who is a fan of the same types of TV/Movies as they are. "Hey, hey, hey, hey-now. Don’t be mean; we don’t have to be mean, cuz, remember, no matter where you go, there you are." This isn't not a meditation reference, it is a pop culture reference. If you don't know it, that's fine. You aren't a fan.

    • “I’ll have what she’s having,”
    • "You complete me."
    • “I’m going to make him an offer he can’t refuse,”
    • "What's Up, Doc?" <--- No isn't isn't from Bugs Bunny.
    • "Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in."
    • "As you wish."
    • "I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass... and I'm all out of bubblegum."
    • "I'll be back."
    • "I say we take off and nuke the site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure."
    • "BIG-BOO-TAY! TAY! TAY!"
    • "I don't know who you are. I don't know what you want. If you are looking for ransom I can tell you I don't have money, but what I do have are a very particular set of skills. Skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you.
    • "use the force, Luke!"
      And obviously,
    • "No, I am your father."

The quote, "Luke... I am your father!" is incorrect, BTW. By changing 1 word, tremendous context is provided that wouldn't exist otherwise, so that everyone can make the connection (assuming they've seen the movies).

Clearly, I care about this far too much.

My favorite misquote is "Beam me up Scotty."
