New Application Release: Screen Enlarger Tool for Visually Impaired Users

I would like to inform you about Virtual Viewer, a new application designed to enhance accessibility for visually impaired users. Virtual Viewer, allows users to enlarge the part of the screen which is under mouse cursor, making it easier to read text and view details. It is inspired by Virtual Miagnifying Glass, but unlike VMG users can interact with the screen. It also has a dock mode similar to KMag. Although I've tested it thoroughly it's under development, so I don't know if there are any bugs. It works pretty well under Mate and XFCE, but only partially under GNOME. There is a problem with KDE decorations but I've added an option to simulate them.

You can download it from here: https://sourceforge.net/projects/virtual-viewer/

    Key Features:

    • Easy-to-Use Interface
    • Customizable Magnification Levels: Users can adjust the magnification level to their preference, ensuring optimal visibility.
    • Smooth Performance: The tool is optimized for minimal impact on system performance, ensuring a smooth and responsive experience.
    • Keyboard Shortcuts: Convenient keyboard shortcuts to quickly activate and control the magnification area.
    • No Wayland support
    • Dock mode

I would like to hear your feedback. If you encounter any issues or have suggestions for improvements, please let me know.

Re: New Application Release: Screen Enlarger Tool for Visually Impaired Users

Thanks for the information! I have my mom setup to use Ubuntu 22.04 (LTS) and her vision has gotten bad that I need to find another option for her. So, this would be something worth looking into!

Question: she spends a lot of time on YouTube, so being able to respond to videos and being and to actually see what she types would be great. Do you know if this virtual viewer works well with YouTube?

    Thanks in advance!

    Peace...

Thank you for the reply, the app works well with Youtube as with any other website. It will not work under Wayland.
Hope you find it useful. Please feel free to ask me any question or send me any suggestions.
