In the Press
Google patches its fifth zero-day vulnerability of the year in Chrome
Dan Goodin tells us that Google has fixed their fifth zero-day vulnerability in the Chrome browser this year. We're given details of CVE-2024-4671 which was reported by an anonymous source, and given a rating of 8.8 out of 10. Version 124.0.6367.201 contains the fix with a note that use of the exploit exists in the 'wild'.

Steam Client Update Adds 150% Scale Factor by Default for 4K Monitors on Linux
Marius Nestor writes that Valve has released a new Steam Client update for Linux and other OSes. We're given details of the new features which includes default scaling on 4K monitors, as well Marius depicts some bug fixes. A link to the release notes is given.

GNOME 47 Desktop Environment Release Date Slated for September 18th, 2024
The author of this blog, Marius Nestor, tells us that the GNOME 47 development cycle has started. He gives us some information about the new release and refers to some features that he hopes will be included when GNOME 47 is included in the upcoming releases of Ubuntu and Fedora. He also reminds us that his blog will keep his readers updated with changes to both GNOME 46 and 47.

LibreOffice 7.6.7 Is Here as the Last Update in the Series, Upgrade to LibreOffice 24.2
Marius Nestor informs us that LibreOffice 7.6.7 is the last update of the series and recommends all users to upgrade to LibreOffice 24.2.3, which is available from the LibreOffice website. He briefly describes its new features, refers to its improved interoperability with MS Office, and tells us that it will be supported until November 30th, 2024.

First Ubuntu 24.10 Daily Build Downloads Now Live
Joey Sneddon tells us that Ubuntu 24.10 ‘Oracular Oriole’ is now open for development and that daily builds are now available for download. He warns us that the available builds are 'pending' rather than 'current' so that "they have not yet undergone automated testing to ensure they boot".
