EDIT: And did you remove the added parameter's from grub yet? (They are not needed now)

If you recommend it, I can do that before filing a bug report, sure.

The one I upgraded from, it maybe became unresponsive every other month or something like that. But I never followed up on it since happened so rarely.

Even with the header dependency issue the kernel should still run. Try it. Otherwise the kernel needs to be re-compiled using the version of Ubuntu it will run on.

A good start is to see what you have now:

Also, if you ran the UbuntuForums 'system-info' Script, that would tell us what you have hardware-wise, what the OS is using on that hardware, and how it was configured.
