    @Shibblet
    im honored not many idiots call themselves meanguy, but im glad someone still remembers me. im installing ubuntu studio right now. lets wait and see how it goes.
    im glad one of the old gladiators still alive and doing well.
    wont go back on irc thats for sure. i dont spend time one the net....man, i would play the modem sound to my son and tell him that used to give us dopamine he was like *** is that..
    funny he graduated and got a scholarship, he's gonna go into cyber security, i laughed, im like "go live the live i never had"
    i became an engineer with 2 degrees, mechanical and electronics, currently working on reverse engineering, we can't stop learning. it saddens me to see the new generation not into learning these days.
    oh and i was teaching electronics part time to really one of the worst students in college cuz they couldnt handle them, i made some of them cry but at the end i was nice lol...my personality is still the same, i dont know how i didn't end up in jail "knock on wood"
    i wish i can say i still remember you buddy, but alaska, i remember someone from there back in the old days.
    lets see how the installation goes...i did screw it up the 1st couple of times , you know we love to mess things up and try to fix it.ended up with grub screen hahahaha back then grub was scary.
    if you want my contact just send me a pm and i'll share my snap and we'll catch up .... peace.. thank you for putting a smile on my face, not a lot can do that these days..

    @909mjolnir
    people are trying to survive , the idiots up there have really ruined how people think and how beautiful the world was. now its all about trying to survive the day and make a living.
    i can't say im different , im here to use linux to start content creation. i taught my son how to use a pc, and told him to use it for youtube and make money.. he ended up playing games and making money more than me.. im like ***? i should be doing that too.. so now im learning from him.
    cant be using wintendo for anything useful these days. but im sure linux will be interesting to go back into.
    just be happy you didn't have to spend night and day to make x11 working

    I started with ol' Hardy Heron 8.04. Been doing this for 16 years at this point.

    I have often wondered if the whole of Linux is alive, because ye olden computer guys liked to tinker.

    Ahhhh…I’m glad you’re still alive buddy, i wonder what happened to the rest of the gang. lucky you, i have to relearn everything from scratch but i like it that most of the stuff I’m going through were already asked, had to just search the forums
    1st thing i encountered was the black screen after software updating, fixed by adding nomodeset to grub and updated it, the other one was duplicate sources, also read the manual,
    I’m on Ubuntu studio, I’m planning to install stable diffusion and fooocus in order to make some content for a YouTube channel and make cash lol, if my son managed to make 10000 bucks in a year, i feel pathetic so why not
    Next step is to customize Ubuntu, i might install it on my work computer tomorrow as well. Maybe install circuit simulation apps..
    I will only ask questions here if i can’t find the solution to my problem. You wont believe how i decided to go back to Linux, its coda and PyTorch blame it on them, i noticed people having less problems with it in Linux. And the reason why i stopped going on Linux was my ex wife, she couldn’t use the computer back then, got busy with the kids and life..
    Now I’m happily divorce funny my current gf got jealous from me working on computer, decided to take some rest …. Gotta figure out how to connect my iPad to the desktop so i can work from bed. lol…… so much to learn so much to learn.

    The Linux community is still the same, actually I’m impressed by the new distros and how they managed to get it this far, i wonder if Debian is still alive.. wait let me check..yeah it is, bookworm and trixie lol, funny, at least Sid is alive.

    Thanks for replying buddy and making me feel welcome
    Now i need to figure out why this screen comes up when booting Ubuntu.

    I totally started out with Xubuntu, Ubuntu Studio, and Lubuntu, but I shifted to Debian/Devuan and Arch foundations instead.
    But I keep some varieties of the others handy for fun reference. I like to test distros as a hobby.

    Bugger, and I thought I was the only fossil remembering that hassle! Oddest thing though was, at the same time, OS/2 had support for XFree86, and that was quite simple to set up by comparison. ISTR there were only two WMs available for that, GNUStep Windowmaker and Afterstep, and at the time being a long-time Nextstep/Openstep user as well I set up the former which was supposed to be copying the NeXT DE - what a disappointment though, it wasn't corrected for the different gamma of Nextstep! :/

    Actually, that's what first got me into Linux really. Was used to at times working with Sparcs and then Ultrasparcs and Sun OS/Solaris, and SGI Indigo, Power Indigo 2, and Indigo 2 Impact R10000 and the lovely Irix, best and most "user-friendly" Unix ever. So Linux was a logical interest really.

    Anyway, X11 really was pain, big time. Especially under my first Linux distro, Slackware. And unstable as hell.
