Thank you, but is that for Gnome? I don't see those options on XFCE - but also, I am guessing that would hide all removable volumes?

However - I woke up this morning and remembered how I did it. I used gnome disks to turn off the auto switch in mount options, then edited the last parameter adding x-gvfs-hide, so it's appended this to fstab:

    Code:
    /dev/disk/by-id/nvme-eui.002538b531410ff5-part1 /mnt/nvme-eui.002538b531410ff5-part1 auto nosuid,nodev,nofail,noauto,x-gvfs-hide 0 0
    /dev/disk/by-uuid/14479364333730549985 /mnt/14479364333730549985 auto nosuid,nodev,nofail,noauto,x-gvfs-hide 0 0
Both partitions showing were the NVMe.. doing it this way seems to allow ZFS to still use them but they are now hidden on desktop and sidebar in XFCE, but when I insert a key drive it still shows.

    Speeds still good this morning

Dare I jinx it, but still good...

    Code:
time read miss miss% dmis dm% pmis pm% mmis mm% size c avail
    03:51:48 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 15G 19G 98G
    Code:
    READ: bw=2679MiB/s (2809MB/s), 2679MiB/s-2679MiB/s (2809MB/s-2809MB/s), io=10.0GiB (10.7GB), run=3822-3822msec
    Code:
    WRITE: bw=1141MiB/s (1196MB/s), 1141MiB/s-1141MiB/s (1196MB/s-1196MB/s), io=10.0GiB (10.7GB), run=8978-8978msec
Still caning it as much as I can and monitoring.....

I will actually be mind blown if this turns out to be the problem all along.....

Still ok (but not officially saying this yet!) lol:

    Yesterday:

    Code:
       READ: bw=2643MiB/s (2772MB/s), 2643MiB/s-2643MiB/s (2772MB/s-2772MB/s), io=10.0GiB (10.7GB), run=3874-3874msec
    Code:

    Code:
time read miss miss% dmis dm% pmis pm% mmis mm% size c avail

    Now:

    Code:
     READ: bw=3665MiB/s (3843MB/s), 3665MiB/s-3665MiB/s (3843MB/s-3843MB/s), io=10.0GiB (10.7GB), run=2794-2794msec
    Code:
     WRITE: bw=1047MiB/s (1098MB/s), 1047MiB/s-1047MiB/s (1098MB/s-1098MB/s), io=10.0GiB (10.7GB), run=9776-9776msec

    Code:
time read miss miss% dmis dm% pmis pm% mmis mm% size c avail
    01:34:06 84 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 61G 64G 47G
    Current Samsung SSD temp: 30c.

Lots of Emby use of late...... continuing to test.

    Thanks, me too!

Interestingly, the arc (now given time) is maxing out:

    Code:
time read miss miss% dmis dm% pmis pm% mmis mm% size c avail
    17:24:36 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 64G 64G 40G
No doubt if not capped at 64GB:

    Code:
    cat /etc/modprobe.d/zfs.conf
    options zfs zfs_arc_min=8589934592
    options zfs zfs_arc_max=68719476736
    It would be even higher

Performance is good here though (still monitoring though!):

    Code:
    WRITE: bw=1175MiB/s (1232MB/s), 1175MiB/s-1175MiB/s (1232MB/s-1232MB/s), io=10.0GiB (10.7GB), run=8713-8713msec

    READ: bw=3399MiB/s (3564MB/s), 3399MiB/s-3399MiB/s (3564MB/s-3564MB/s), io=10.0GiB (10.7GB), run=3013-3013msec
I might not get the chance to message again until after the 25th, so here's wishing everyone here on the forums and at Canonical a very Happy Christmas (or whatever holiday you may be celebrating now) and a Happy New Year with best wishes for 2024

Re: Seemingly sporadic slow ZFS IO since 22.04

Just checking in to let you know I haven't forgotten about this. Things are still going well. It's been approx 3 weeks since re-installation and we are still merrily hopping backwards are forwards through 4K on several devices at a time. I haven't heard a peep out of the family asking me to fix Emby... it's been... bliss [insert little party dance here - but still not victory dance (yet) lol].

I am going to give it 1 more week (perhaps overkill but I think we can all agree based on the history there should have been something at that point) and, if all is still well, I will reinstall Ksplice. I am hoping this doesn't cause the issue to reappear, but either way it will answer the question.
