Unhappy Ubuntu freezes after a few second I using it

    Hi All,

I have a Dell inspiron 5482 2 in 1 laptop and I used windows 11 but I installed ubuntu recently as well. After I login I can use ubuntu for a few seconds and after that, it is freezing completely and not responding to anything and I have to press the power button for a few seconds to be able to shut down the laptop. Could you please somebody help me with how can I fix this problem?

    thank you in advance!

Hmm, if you are a new Linux user then this kind of problem can be very hard to resolve. During installation, a simple video driver is used, to ensure that it will work on almost any computer. After installation, the system loads a better driver specific to the video adaptor. This will enable better video performance - or that is the idea anyway. To fix the problem, you need to experiment with different drivers, which can be hard to do since it is difficult to do something if you cannot see the screen or if the machine is frozen. It may be much easier to try a different Linux distribution, such as Xubuntu and see how it goes.

I have tried to install Xubuntu but it froze during the installation. I had a hard time installing ubuntu as well because of the freezing.

Then, I would try a completely different system, such as Arch or Fedora. (Anything not Debian based). The problem is that while the developers test with many different machines, they cannot test with every single type of machine.

That sounds bad indeed. As a last resort I would try Slackware and then OpenBSD. If those also don’t work, give up and find a better laptop!
