Lightbulb Facing issue with VPN functionality/UI

    Hi Everyone,
Seeking a help on the VPN UI front. I am trying to remove VPN UI from gnome-shell-3.36.9 over Ubuntu 20.

I am trying to change the UI of VPN, and want to add it as a sub-menu in the <MENTION THE PLACE>. I have tried to edit, Network.js & networkagent.js files in gnome-shell; and tried to rebuild. After the installation of new, modified gnome-shell; either the OS crashes, or I don't see any changes at all. I have tried to comment the line where rendering of VPN-panel is mentioned, and rebuilt. No luck here as well!

Can anyone provide me how to make UI changes or how to approach to a small experiment which I mentioned above.

Any support or help will be appreciable.
    Thanks in advance!

Re: Facing issue with VPN functionality/UI

I am confused by what you are saying and asking...

I get that you are using Gnome Shell 3.36.

You mention that you are using VPN... How? You hint that you have a problem with VPN functionality, but do not mention or explain what that might be.

You say that you are trying to make changes in Gnome Shell, and cannot find where to make those changes... But you do not say what you are trying to change in or make to Gnome Shell. That may help us find where to change that setting, if possible.

Next, you hint that somehow, there is a connection between what you are trying to change in your User Interface (Gnome Sessions), that is affecting your VPN(???)

Then you say you are trying to put some kinds of logs somewhere... But do not explain what the logs are for, which might help us to suggest where they might be stored, or where to put them...

Then you say you are also crashing after "installing Debian's" <BLANK>. You said nothing more about that, so I do not know if you made another OS installation which caused problems with this one (which you did not mention what version of Ubuntu you are running) or installed some kind of application.

Do you see how I might be a bit confused by what you have said? Or confused by what you did not say?

Please help me, to be able to help you. Please provide more (clear) information on what the problem is and what you need help with.

"I am trying to make some changes in gnome-shell but not able to find exact location where I have to make changes"

    Perhaps use Gnome Tweak Tools.

Without really understanding your requirements is this of interest?

A simple Gnome Shell extension that tells you whether or not you're connected to a VPN.

However one of the reference links is broken. 404 not found.
